Help us find and improve next week's Connection Finder profiles: Rabbits

We're refereeing a battle of the bunnies as we head into Easter.

We will look at rabbits in the Connection Finder next week.

Here is who we're starting on:

Who else should we feature? We have room for 12 individuals. We can't feature everyone who is nominated, but if we don't feature a profile you work on, we may use it sometime in the future. And, of course, all contributions help improve our shared tree.

Our choice of features will depend partly on the notable person's CC7, i.e. their connection count within seven degrees. The more connections they have, the more likely it is for all WikiTree members to find a close and interesting connection to them. So, if you nominate someone, please help grow their CC7.

Suggestions are more likely to be considered if you provide a link to the person on WikiTree, some information about who they were or why you're nominating them, and if their profile is in good condition with a connection, image, and well-written and well-sourced biography.

We'll make a final decision on which ones to feature early next week.

Please reply here with what you're working on so that we don't duplicate our efforts. Thank you!

Take note that this is not the place to discuss why you think we shouldn't feature someone if those reasons are due to politics, actions, or opinions of those being suggested. Mentioning things like their not being connected, their biography still needing work, erroneous information, etc. are all suitable for discussion here and an opportunity to correct those situations.

Help us choose themes for 2024 Connection Finder themes here.

Nicolas Cage, in the now classic movie Con Air, risked life and limb to deliver a stuffed bunny to his young daughter upon their first meeting following his release from prison. After besting fellow convict 'Billy Bedlam' over his cherished gift, he famously proclaims, "Why couldn't you put the bunny back in the box?"

His profile certainly needs a biography, but his current CC7 is a decent 1044.

I nominate John Cadbury, the founder of Cadbury Chocolates. Who can resist a Cadbury Bunny? John is a notable with over 3200 Connections. I see that he was in a Connection finder 2 years ago, so maybe you will choose someone else.

Charles Lutwidge Dodgson better known by his pen name Lewis Carroll

and his novel -  Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

Alice sees a White Rabbit with a pocket watch and follows him down a rabbit hole.

by Allan Entwistle G2G6 Mach 3 (38.2k points)
Oh, Allan, as genealogists we should definitely feature the person responsible for the concept of chasing rabbits down a rabbit hole! He has a CC7 count of 726 so we need to work on that.
Growing up in 1950's rural England, it was a dreadful sight to see so many rabbits afflicted by Myxomatosis.

Although many farmers welcomed the disease as a means of reducing the rabbit population, and UK government policy on the matter was called into question.

Since then various acts of parliament have come into being to reduce the transmission of the disease.

In the book 'Watership Down' mentioned below the disease is referred to as the 'The White Blindness'.
Alan, I didn't know. How sad.
Thanks, Allan.

Some rabbit-associated lateral thinking was needed here.

  • Constance Whitney Warren (1888–1948) USA, sculptor; CC7 4,686, good biography, needs image
  • Eva Burrows (1929–2015) Australia, Salvation Army general; CC7 1,100, extensive biography, images.

These Wikimedia Commons images could be considered for Constance Whitney Warren:

I nominate Margery Williams, the author of The Velveteen Rabbit. She has a CC7 count of 145 so we need to work on that. She's also connected to two other notables - Charlie Chaplin and Eugene O'Neill.

Helen Beatrix Potter, author of The Tale of Peter Rabbit. I'll check into adding some more connections.

Helen Beatrix (Potter) Heelis (1866-1943) | WikiTree FREE Family Tree

by Al Thompson G2G6 (6.5k points)
YES - Please do Beatrix.

I grew up with stories of Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail and Peter far more than I did with stories of Alice and the White rabbit!!!

Speaking of White Rabbits, Can we do the young actress who had the white rabbit tattoo on the back of her shoulder in the first MATRIX movie? The one that Neo had to follow. Not sure if that was Trinity (Carrie Anne Moss)  or someone else...

Or maybe not...  IMDB says she is Australian of Greek Ancestry

Ada Nicodemou

Thanks, Al.

I nominate Richard Adams, the author of the novel Watership Down, about a group of rabbits who leave their warren before its destruction, and their experiences as they search for a place to establish a new home. The movie is based on this book.

I was going to suggest Dick Bruna (maker of Miffy the rabbit), but he already has been featured twice, once for year of the Rabbit and once for cartoonists.

Since the Easter bunny is actually a hare (Paashaas) in the Netherlands I'll nominate a hare instead:

Konrad Wilhelm Hase - German architect  wikipedia

His bio needs some work though.

Thinking a bit outside the box - How about Rachel "Bunny" Mellon, who redesigned and planted the White House Rose Garden in 1961 at the request of President Kennedy. 1,658 connections, but needs a few extra primary sources.

On behalf of the Australia Project, and the Notables Project Diversity Team, I would like to nominate Bunney Brooke - actress (before everyone was an actor), playwright, producer, director, and casting agent.  Has picture, has bio, is Connected, and her CC7 is 3,666.

by Melanie Paul G2G6 Pilot (423k points)

Good call, Melanie! I was going to nominate Bunny Adair to include someone from Australia, but this is a much better choice.

Nominate the other Bunny, because Bunney Brooke was featured last year - plus the more the merrier, right?
Thanks, Melanie and Star.

On behalf of the Notables Project Diversity Team, I would like to nominate Peter Dinklage whose very first theatrical performance was in a school production of the Velveteen Rabbit, in which he played the lead.  He has a picture, a basic bio (because he is still living) and is Connected - but his CC7 is only 87 so could do with some work.
(I wanted to nominate Debbie Lee Carrington, but she played an Ewok, not a rabbit; and Angelo Rossitto is not Connected (he played "Bunny" in the 1944 movie Lady in the Dark).)

by Melanie Paul G2G6 Pilot (423k points)
Thanks, Melanie.

Grace Slick, of Jefferson Airplane (aka Jefferson Starship), wrote and sang the famous "White Rabbit". She is descended from old crusty Mayflower lineages.
by Maggie N. G2G Astronaut (1.3m points)
I agree - see nomination above.
The bullet list instead of a real biography is unfortunate, though.
Thanks, Maggie.
