Is there a way to combine an image with links?

In case you are wondering why: a major part of the challenge of tracing ancestors for any MacDonald is trying to understand which branch (or sept) of the Clan Donald they came from. With those branches being scattered over a huge geographic area. It might help narrow down the search if we can more easily view the relevant part(s) of Scotland for each branch. A map with clickable links to project/study sub-pages for each branch might help? Just an idea at this stage.

Hi Keith. Sorry but the answer to your question is effectively no.

HTML provides "image maps", which allow different areas of an image to be made clickable as links to different web pages. See for example this description.

However, there is no way to use these image maps on WikiTree. The necessary HTML tags <map> and <area> are not recommended here.

The only possible approach would be for you to set up an image map on a page on a different external website which you are able to edit, then link to it from your one-name study page.

You can do this with categories such as:

Category: Argyllshire, MacDonald Name Study; or
Category: Lanarkshire, MacDonald Name Study; or
Category: Kirkcudbrightshire, MacDonald Name Study
