Borderless Census Tables

On WikiTree's Saturday Roundup on YouTube this morning, my 3rd great grandfather, John Howell was celebrated for having a birthday this month by Betsy Ko. While they were looking over his profile, Mags Gaulden made a point of really liking the census tables I had on his profile because they were borderless and much more pleasing on the eyes. Greg Clarke, Mags and Betsy thought it would be a great tip for others, so I thought I would share it here. It's a quick and simple step!

I use the WikiTree Sourcer to bring over all of my sources and I have it set up to bring over tables. After the download, I run the auto bio. Now unfortunately, the auto bio throws the tables back to the bottom and I have to move them back up. But when I do I make this quick change:

This is what you first see at the top of the table (just under the source):

{| border="1" cellpadding="4"

All you have to do is change the "1" to a "0" so it looks like this:

{| border="0" cellpadding="4"

And voila! You have borderless tables.

And don't forget to tune into the Saturday Roundups every Saturday morning! You never know what knew trick or tip you could learn!

Looks good, however, I find tables easier to follow if they have borders and lines.

Probably due to my sight failings rather than anything else.

So, like many things it is a matter of personal preference.

You don’t actually have to edit the tables. You can set an option in Sourcer to generate borderless tables if that is what you prefer. See the options under Household Tables in the WikiTree Sourcer options page.

There are other options like having no heading row or making all tables the full width of the page.

That is good to know, Rob. Thank you!

For anyone who is interested I made a free space page with some examples of different household table styles.

You are so awesome, Rob! Thank you!
Question, Rob? Do we have any tables for census records pre-1850?
Not household tables but you can create a table in the citation using the option of setting the data style to table.  These censuses don’t really have table data do they? Just a list of labels and values?
Example:

In the 1840 census, John was in Mobile City, Mobile, Alabama.<ref>
