How can I share source information among members of the same family?

I'm revising the profile of my third great grandfather, and I need to share sources among his wife and his 8 (or so) children. I don't see any obvious way to access sources associated with this person.

All suggestions gratefully appreciated. Thanks.

When I have sources that I can use for multiple people I usually just put them in a Word doc and then copy and paste or just copy and paste from one profile to another.   If you have something like a will transcript or a family Bible you can create a free space page and then link to it for each person mentioned.  Wikitree doesn’t really have a single easy way to create a citation and then apply it to several profiles in one fell swoop.  There are tools that can help you format citations and FamilySearch has citations you can just copy and paste.

Hi John,

This is the only source information on Michael Mahoney's profile:

Michael Mahoney appears in [2] with wife Ellin and children Patrick, John, Mary, Margaret, Catherine, illegible, and Lucretia.

1. Profile created by John Sibert through the import of SibertWT.ged on Jan 5, 2019. This comment and citation should be deleted after a short biography has been added and primary sources have been cited.

2. 1850 United States Census for Springhill, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.

The Gedcom is not a source. the 1850 Census while it is a source, there is no information about the family, who they were, their names, their ages, where they lived other than Bradford, Pennsylvania.

With no information about Michael's birth place, birth date, marriage date, parent's names, wife's maiden name and other information about the family. You need to do more research about the family before you can add sources.

Do you have any more information about Michael, his wife or his children?

Have you tried using RootsSearch to find sources, on the bottom right of his profile-that is Michael's profile you will see:

Research

RootsSearch for Michael Mahoney: conveniently search 20+ genealogy websites. [more info]

Family Search is included in the options for finding sources, there could be valuable information on Family Search about Michael and his family.

If you do not currently have a Family Search membership, you should create an account, it is free but you do need to have an account to use the website.

The information as shown on Michael's profile is not enough to be sure that any records you may find are for this particular Mahoney family.

If you have any other information about the family you should add it to Michael's profile even if at present it is unsourced.

You can add it to his biography without creating profiles for other family members.

Do you have information about any other children of Michael and Mary Ellen?

If you need more help please come back here and ask as many questions as are needed.

It depends what you want the final profile to look like.

I generally use WikiTree Sourcer to build unique citations for each person profile - i.e. with a different narrative for each person and pointing to the records specific to that person on FamilySearch. It only takes three clicks to swiitch to a different person on the FamilySearch census record, build the citation and paste it into a WikiTree profile.

This may be the FamilySearch page for the 1850 census mentioned on your linked profile: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M44P-BLM
