This is a lot -
There are two men named George Dawson Blackmore, and a third George Blackmore, who lived in Sumner, TN in the 1800s, and I've been getting twisted all around as I try to unravel their relationship.
1- The first is the 'patriarch' George Dawson Blackmore (his id is Blakemore-338...this is incorrect and I've asked the profile manager to look into correcting it.) (1762-1833) who was born in Hagerstown, MD. He was the son of Charles and Mary Ann Dawson Blackmore. He fought in the Revolutionary War, and as a captain, was awarded a land grant, moved to Gallatin, Sumner, TN. He married Elizabeth Neely (1767-1833), remained in the military, fought Indians, was promoted to major, and was a farmer. He and Elizabeth had 11 children - their 8th child was {{Blackmore-1884|Dr. James Alexander Blackmore]] (1800-1863) who seems to be wrapped up in the stories and the confusion about the other George Dawson Blackmores.
--The confusing part:
2-The second [[Blackmore-1883|George Dawson Blackmore]] (1820-1887), I'm calling him "George II", was born in Gallatin, Sumner, TN, and a source says, the son of Dr. James Blackmore and his second wife, Martha Ann Allen (1811-1837), but Martha would have only been 9 years old and that doesn't seem likely. Further validating & confusing the point is that James married his first wife, Evaline Hadley (1809-1833) in 1828, so the timeline doesn't work for her either. Could George II have been truly the son of George D. (I) and an unknown mother, but then was raised in James' household?
George II married Amanda Hatler in 1858...and to further muck up the name situation, they named their 3rd daughter Georgia "Georgie" H. Blackmore (1868-1891).
3-The third George Blackmore, "George III" (1843-1891) (he doesn't have a profile yet ) was born in Sumner TN, the son of Dr. James and his third wife Jane Parrish, whom he married in 1841. This George III fought for the Confederacy, and according to his death notice in the Bolivar (TN) Bulletin -- in which he's identified as George A.-- he was the 2nd son and youngest child of Dr James, he never married, and at his death was honored by the Donelson Bivouac of Confederate Veterans.
The details of George III as 2nd son (the first was William H. (1831-1880) and youngest child of James tracks with the idea that George II was not James' son, and then I'm left trying to unravel his parentage and I'm lost.
Sorry about all the details, but I've tried to clarify this snarl, and any thoughts would be appreciated
