Proposing change to a location

In the location list that comes up when creating a profile there are two (only two) choices for Barre, Vermont.  There is

*Barre City, Washington, Vermont, United States

*Barre Town, Washington, Vermont, United States.

They are now two different municipalities but before 1895 they were one town called Barre, Vermont.  I wonder if we could have a new location (pre-1895) much as we do for US States who have pre-Revolution locations and post-Revolution locations.

No big issue - but technically not correct to use Barre Town before 1895 as it did not yet exist.  I have noticed Familysearch.org also uses Barre Town for too early dates.

The location list that comes up is only a suggestion and was not prepared by WikiTree as I understand it. I do not think it can be changed/modified.

But you can enter the correct location when you set up the profile, or anytime you add a location, you are not limited to the ʻlistʻ.

This may be remediable through the WikiTree Browser Extension. See

The dropdown list is from Family Search and is very often incorrect, use the location as shown on the original records.

Not sure any of these answer the question but I guess the answer is No, we can’t add a location.

I do use the original location when it shows.

I do like to use the drop down as they are standardized and make it much easier to spot duplicates. Harder when one is Edison Twp, IL

And the other is Edison Township, Edison, Illin.

And another is Edison, Edison County, Illinois, USA.

At least easier for me.

I guess the official (?) answer is we use whatever we want and don’t bother with standardization.
