Alice Bradford, Top Connected Woman

CC7 aficionados are of course knowing our top connected WikiTreer Patty LaPlante with a current CC7 of over 45k, second only to the current champion Jim Loden, who just passed the amazing milestone of 50k.

Maybe less known is the most connected notable woman, Hélène Des Portes, with a current CC7 of about 140k.

But beyond WikiTreers and notables, many profiles in the Big Tree, and among them, many women, reach CC7 values twice as large as the previous one. Shawn Ligocki has run a program on a recent data dump which captures, if not all (very tricky task), at least a good sample of top connected profiles. Among them is Alice (Bradford) Fitch (abt. 1659 - 1745), with a current CC7 over 325k, exactly 325,715 by this morning data. She's second only to her brother Joseph Bradford at 343k.

Shawn's program has retrieved hundreds of profiles with CC7 over 200k, most of them being "Early Settlers" either in New England (as the Bradford family and other Mayflower folks), Nouvelle-France, or South Africa.

The Nouvelle-France top connected woman seems to be Geneviève Roy with a CC7 at about 262k, her South African match being Johanna Adriana (de Beer) Pretorius at 204k.

Note that all those are beating the Top Connected Notable Brigham Young, who, despite his huge and a bit unfair starting C1 at 135, which should make him stand out, has a current CC7 of "only" 201k.

For the record, Samuel Lothrop, who used to be our top connected reference, is still a serious challenger of the Bradford family, with a CC7 of over 266k.

Check your distance to Alice Bradford, it should be less than 20. Her mean distance to all connected profile is just below 17 ... (mine is exactly 17).

One can wonder : so what about European women? They stand far behind, excepted some mothers or grandmothers of the above mentioned Early Settlers. Even most famous members of various British royal families. For example Queen Victoria, who used to be our connection "anchor" years ago, has a CC7 of only 13k as I write, not even enough to be featured among the 1,000 top connected notables. Mary Queen of Scots is ranked #907 as I write with a CC7 of 27k ...

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Capen-60 (Hannnah Guifford) from Dorchester, England. Father a shoemaker,  a woman employed by the puritan  town authorities to teach poor children has 73,246 connections.  (And althiugh  her notability is in her own right, her  connections  come from the US. Her father and most siblings emigrated to New England )

(The town is  proud of her,  just yesterday it was  announced that she's on a list of possibilities for a statue in the town. She'll get my vote)

Thx Helen. Cast my vote for the statue! smiley

Alice is my 10th great grandmother
I am 10 degrees from Alice Bradford.  Direct line. Interesting.
@Clyde, that relationship is not found by either the Connection or Relationship Finder. The former says you are at 12 degrees following 3 branches, and the later says Alice is your 1st cousin 10 times removed. https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:Relationship&action=calculate&person1Name=Green-42123&person2Name=Bradford-45
@Bernard Vatant that is on my father's side, scroll down on my mother's side she is my 10th great grandmother

20 degrees from Alice, but a more impressive 9 degrees from Johanna Pretorius. (Yes, I'm South African :) )

Interesting stats and info. Thanks.

Yes, of course, you are a direct descendant of a sister of Johanna. smiley

The number of CC7 connections boggles the mind.

I am 15 degrees from Alice Bradford, but I don't have any Mayflower ancestors (that I know of).

Yes it's even more mind-boggling if you look beyond CC7 ...

Impressive. See my comment on Darlene's answer below.

I'm 12 degrees away, which is not surprising since I have Mayflower ancestors.

This is a super cool post, Bernard!

I am 16 degrees from Alice. The person five degrees away from me is the person who emigrated from Sweden to the US (in 1888).

The 16-degree path goes through my father. If I try a path through my mother instead it's 19 degrees. The emigrant in this path is also five degrees away from me (she left Sweden in 1884).

I'm eleven degrees from her.  Her second husband James Fitch s my 8th great-grandfather.  I descend from him and his first wife.
by Darlene Athey-Hill G2G6 Pilot (543k points)
Such short distances, 11 for you, and 10 for Jean in above answer, are difficult to challenge, except by direct descendants. The WT+ report about Alice's descendants says the most recent at distance 7 were born in 1931, at distance 8 in 1960, and distance 9 in 1980. So maybe we have active WikiTreers among those.

But thinking some of her C7 are still alive is impressive.

David Leonard Adams (1931 - 2006) was a descendant of Alice at d=7. He has three siblings in WT, including one private profile born in the 1930s, who hopefully is still living.

Alice is my 6th great-grandaunt.  Finding differences in year of birth and date of death.  One says born in 27 March 1661 and the other 1659.  Died March 10 or 15th...which is right?
