Is there a way to end a sub-list and go back to the indentation of the main list?

I want to have embedded lists in a free-space page like:

1. text

2. text

    * sub-text

    * sub-text

   more text for item 2

3 text

I can't seem to find a way to terminate the sub-list and go back to the indentation of item 2 while maintaining the numbering of the outer list.

TIA

What profile are you working on? Check out Help Page for Editing Tips should help. that link will take you to the Mixed Lists section, where they go back and forth with # and * but you can stay with both asterisks and numbered sections.

#text 1

#text 2

#* sub-text 1 for text 2

#* sub-text 2 for text 2

# text 3

Don't put any blank lines within any numbered list or the numbered list will restart. You can put a blank line between lines with the Asterisk, but not when there is a # sign that you want to be continuing

You got the numbered list to continue in the Space Page you are editing, down in the Other Sources section.

Your example doesn't include the 'more text for item 2' line that is causing the problem. On the free space page I was editing (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Sources_and_Analysis_related_to_Benjamin_%27Shy_Ben%27_Allen), under the 'Confirmed Sources' section, item 2 Land Petitions, I want the word Analysis to line up like it does in items 1, 3 and 4, but it doesn't because I have the sub-list included in item 2.

In the 'Other Sources' section I don't have any text that I want lined up with the outer list text.

Try

#text 1
#text 2
#* sub-text 1 for text 2
#* sub-text 2 for text 2
#;more text for item 2
#text 3
That came very close, but it now has a blank line before and after the line with "more text for item 2".

I can live with that it there is no way to prevent the blank lines from showing.
The only other thing I can think of is to use
but that will indent the extra text to align with the sub-points:

#text 1
#text 2
#* sub-text 1 for text 2
#* sub-text 2 for text 2
more text for item 2
# text 3
