I have the scan of the RN Service record for William C Ouzman Ouzman-5 with an illegible entry.  The image is reproduced as https://www.wikitree.com/photo/jpg/Ouzman-5-1

The entry refers to Williams service in HM Coastguard from 1904 to '16, Each Coastguard station is prfeceded by a word that I cannot decifer.  His CG service was confirmed by marriage and census records from 1907 onwards..

Can anyone unravel the script please?

I don't see any Coast Guard stations on the page at all. There is a column for "ships &c [etc.] served in". Is that what you mean?

Also, this covers his service from 1892 to 1919, at the bottom it says "Transferred to Coastguard (N.F.) 1-5-19"

Interesting note at the bottom, best I can read it:

N46494/15. Awarded [?] on [Nelham?] by Royal Humane Socy [Society, I assume] for saving life at Almmouth on 10-8-15.

Not really sure what the "Trace" comments are about. The final box says "Invalided", which I just learned means removed from service because of injury or illness. I think the date there is 23/6/20.

Sorry, that's Alnmouth. I wasn't sure I read it correctly, but it's a real place in England, it turns out.
The names of the "ships, &c" in order are (best I can read):

Boscawen, Australia, Victory I, Pembroke, Repulse, Wildfire, Pembroke, [Galipso??], Pembroke I, Wildfire, Pembroke I, Northampton, Pembroke I, Wildfire, Hercules, Eastern Newton, - [Ha?church], Seahouses, ---, Alnmouth, President IV Amble[?]

Thanks for this.

Eastern Newton, - [Ha?church], Seahouses, ---, Alnmouth, President IV Amble all refer to his time in HM Coastguards.

Some digging indicates that Eastern refers to the Eastern Division of the Coastguard, and online sources name the rear Admirals commanding the Division.

There were Coastguard Stations at each of Newton by the Sea, Hartlepool, Seahouses,  Alnmouth, and Amble all on the east coast in Northhumber and Yorkshire..

The census records for 1911 and 1921 confirms his Coastguard service

That will be a Testemonial on Vellum, I missed the importance of that entry,  Life saving was part of the CG duties.  https://royalhumanesociety.org.uk/about-us/awards-and-certificates/

The other "traces" record awards like medals and gratuities.

Thanks for your help, you have confirmed something that I had figured ou, and added additional value to the profile.

regards

Nick
