Hi - I need help translating a portion of a German Marriage record.  I can't read the cursive writing and I am having difficulties understanding the printed German words.  I specifically hope to get a birthdate from this; also the religion she was baptized in.  Thank you for any help you can provide.  The source document is from Hess, Germany, Marriages, 1849-1939, record for Margaretha Thiel (French) marrying Konrad Degenhardt.

This document is not about Margarethe Thiel, it is about Friedrich Theodor Heinrich Krausbauer who is a teacher in the local boyschool. He is born on 1 May 1857 in ... and is protestant. He is son of the teacher Heinrich Krausbauer and his late wife Mathilde, born Ehrlich, living in...

I have problems to decipher the locations, but for the rest I am quite confident.

Thank you
It is the marriage record of Marie Ernestine Katherine Degenhardt, daughter of Heinrich Degenhart and Margarethe Thiel.

Please check out this marriage record on ancestry: https://www.ancestry.de/sharing/9145812?mark=7b22746f6b656e223a227761573343675851786b34566469566f5343396a354b6b53633558793968364e6e4a315752566b316162773d222c22746f6b656e5f76657273696f6e223a225632227d

1889 Eschwege: Heinrich Degenhardt, teacher and cantor in Eschwege, born 1829 Holzhausen Kreis Fritzlar married Johanna Friederike Wilhelmine Thiel, widowed Henzerling, born 1829 in Lohne Kreis Fritzlar.

This could be the same Heinrich - how many teachers named Heinrich Degenhardt can there be in Eschwege?

It is possible that Heinrichs wife died and he remarried (60 years old) a widow that was a relative of his first wife. The marriage record states her as widow, but not him - but still possible. Then you need to search for the 1st wifes death between 1879 and 1889 in Eschwege.

And here the death record 29 Dec 1888:

It is not 100% matching: Born ca 1821 in Völkershain Kreis Homberg. (not France - and 1830 probably was just an estimation?)

Best regards

Meyers Gazetteer has Kleinbremen (now Kleinenbremen), Minden, Minden, Westfalen, Preussen. So far, so good. Eschwege is also pretty clear, but it is about 200 km away. That strikes me as a long enough distance to expect some additional information, such as Kreis, Amt, or similar. I read the last location as Firkhausen, but I struck on with Meyer's. The geography confuses me.
Hello,

you are right with your readings - Friedrich Theodor Heinrich Krausbauer was born in Kleinenbremen https://www.meyersgaz.org/place/10982067 (also called Kleinbremen https://www.meyersgaz.org/place/10979045).

His parents lived in Girkhausen: https://www.meyersgaz.org/place/10573052.

This can be verified with the record of his 2nd marriage where the place names were given including the "Kreis". https://www.ancestry.de/sharing/9181873?mark=7b22746f6b656e223a22587a504e5862437a486356556546496d444e674b424c59756669786d312b6c5330473847316159735875733d222c22746f6b656e5f76657273696f6e223a225632227d.

But we are loosing track here - Chuck assumed the marriage record is was for his ancestor Margarethe Louise Thiel (Degenhardt), but it is not - it is for her daughter.

So it will not help with her birth date or place.

I have added the text of the death records and above marriage record in the research notes of [Thiel-1056] and [Degenhardt-239].

Maybe somebody can check my transcription?

And Chuck, please review and amend the profiles if you think these are the correct records.

Best regards

Bettina
