Shortly after she was diagnosed in the early 1980s, Hayworth became one of the first celebrities to publicly share she had Alzheimer's. This brave feat increased awareness at a time when very little was known about dementia and very little was discussed, and helped start a national conversation around the disease. Source

I'm at 14° through her husband, Aly Salmān and the marriage of my 1C1R to his cousin.

Rita is 16 degrees through her first husband. She is my cousin on both my mom and dad's side.

My mother and her sister also succumbed to early-onset Alzheimer's. My aunt died at age 65 from it and my mom lasted until she was 70. Tomorrow will be my mother's 8th year death anniversary.

As for favorite movie, I haven't really seen any of her movies. The movie I love where her image appears, is Shawshank Redemption.

Shonda, my condolences to you on the death of your mom. My mum died of complications of Alzheimers as well. She died on 17 January 2022. Her death anniversary is in 4 more days.

But! I have a direct bloodline to Orson   Wow!!!

As for the movie: Gilda. Absolutely Gilda for my favorite.

For people I never heard of before I started doing genealogy, they sure get around! This line goes through Orson Wells to get to Rita Hayworth.

Rita Hayworth is 19º and my 22nd cousin via MRCA Anna (Kellet) Holand. I learned of her advocacy for Alzheimer's awareness when our mum was diagnosed with dementia. Rita was on of mum's favorits actresses. The three films I remember most (because I watched them with mum years ago) were Gilda, Pal Joey, and Only Angels Have Wings.

AND...I am related to Orson Welles in two ways! 

1) We are both originally from Wisconsin! Go Badgers and Packers!

2) He is 18º and my 10th cousin through our MRCA Sylvester and Jane (Wells) Baldwin (of the Buckinghamshire Baldwins)

Surprisingly, 20C 1R. Didn’t expect a relationship to her.

The name of one of her husbands bugs me. I’ve read enough to know that during their marriage he was normally named in media as Aly Khan not Salman or Shah. His father was Aga Khan in media also. Nitpicky??

ETA: I’m also 14th cousins with Orson Welles. He was born within spitting distance of my hometown and I somehow never picked up on that.
