I'm not 100% certain myself (joined after you, but editing madly since then ), but I believe in order to move from a "guest" account to a member able to make edits to the tree, you have to confirm your email address in your profile. I think if you edit your profile, you will find it there.
Then one of the greeters on the Wikitree team will give you more information.
