Bingo - Notable Female Aviators Challenge

Question

This month's Bingo episode featured the profile of Amelia Earhart and other women pioneers of aviation. For those who wish to learn more about the women featured, here is a list of links to their profiles:

You will note that many of them are currently unconnected from the Big Tree and many others have rather undeveloped profiles. If these women intrigue you, why not help us make their profiles shining starts of WikiTree? And remember, they have some pretty fascinating family members as well. Can you add anything to the profiles of their parents, siblings, spouses or children? No contribution is ever too small, so please jump in where you can.

There are actually 189 countries that are not represented in this list.

There are a number of factors that go into selecting the notables profiled in these challenges. First and foremost, I begin with a list of fascinating individuals who meet the criteria of the category - regardless of where they may be from. I then whittle that list down to the appropriate number, taking many factors into account - national diversity being one, but not the only factor. Sometimes Australia makes the cut, sometimes it doesn't.

Always feel free to add names in the G2G comments, if you have additional individuals you'd like to see showcased.

But what determines the "appropriate number"? Once you've found them, maybe whittling down isn't necessary.

An appropriate number varies depending on the challenge and the amount of time I have to prepare it and the amount of work required to do so. I believe the largest challenge I've presented featured 90 notables. Smaller ones have featured as few as ten. This time around, 25 was what I could handle.

I've connected Pancho Barnes to her Grandfather, Thaddeus Lowe.  I'll continue to work on developing these profiles.

Thanks Valerie. I'm so happy to see her connected so quickly. I only learned about her recently while pulling this list together, but her picture alone was enough to make me want to include her. She sounds like an amazing person.

One technical note, when adding links to a G2G post you must use the complete URL. Normal WikiTree coding doesn't work. I've fixed the links in your post above.

It would be fascinating to know! I'm such a fan of female aviators. I wanted to be a pilot but my eyes and ears made that impossible.

I added a small biography for Lotfia Elnadi. What are our thoughts on a category for Women Aviators? By the way, people have been busy. A few more of the profiles are now connected.

Jane Gardner (Jean) Batten CBE OSC is actually connected but is showing as not connected on the free space page.

Her profile needs a bit of work as does most of them.
