Cemeteries are among the most valuable of historic resources. They can serve as reminders of various settlement patterns, or they can reveal information about historic events, religions, lifestyles, and most importantly, our genealogy. Unfortunately, these cemeteries do not necessarily remain permanent reminders of our ancestors and past since they are subject to long-term deterioration, neglect, development activities and construction projects, and even vandalism and theft.

If you're skilled in indexing and want to contribute to preserving genealogical data, we welcome your expertise. Help digitize and transcribe cemetery photos for future generations.

Here is today’s article of an ongoing series I have done on cemeteries in The Apopka Voice, Florida. It has an international readership but is based in Orange County abutting Lake and Seminole counties in Central Florida.

Each time I write I include the Wikitree links about the souls, sometimes the editor includes the links and sometimes he doesn’t. If I embed them, he usually does.

Very nice. Thanks for sharing.

Hello, I notice that the Gaston First Baptist Church cemetery in South Carolina is not included on the map. I have at least 6 ancestors buried there and have photos of the tombstones (although I live in San Diego, California I did visit the cemetery many years ago). I would like to get this added to your database. Also, there are some books about local (San Diego) historic cemeteries that I have - City of San Diego and County of San Diego. Happy to help there if needed.

I'm not sure exactly what the question is, but will just give some info about what I can do:

I'm currently in Georgia (DeKalb County) but have had many requests (not from WT, tho') for photos in cemeteries in my old hometown stomping grounds & thereabouts (NW Oregon & SW Washington State), but since I haven't been able to get there a lot lately, or at least not for long enough, & b/c we travel around here quite a bit, I'd love to take photos in some of the old cemeteries in the South. Or new, doesn't matter. So, we go toward the coast (mainly Augusta) fairly often, plus Tennessee & sometimes Alabama, if anyone has a request for a photo or photos near those states.

Also, when we do get back home to the NW, I already have a big list of requests & will be honored to take on more. Our daughter also lives NE of Sacramento, & we will be there quite a bit, so anything there would work for me as well. Maybe, if enough people want them, we'll just take a road trip down (or up) the coast between CA & OR the next time. But for now, around this area in GA is where we are the most.

I am from, and live in Putnam County, Georgia.  There are many small cemeteries not included in the WikiTree Categories list.  I would like to add these, and fill the existing cemeteries.  Also, my father's family is from Summers. Greenbrier and Monroe Counties, West Virginia.  I wish to add, and fill, the relevant cemeteries there.

I am very interested in helping. I have photographed several local, rural cemeteries in my area of Virginia and created Findagrave memorials. Once the stones are gone, they're gone forever. We have to help preserve each other's past.

Hello. I am a newer member of Wiki, I would like to get involved in helping in a project, but I am not great with citations, tech etc., so I think being able to do something like this would be great. I am in Milton, Ontario, (Canada) and if I go in a 1-2 hour radius, I can go to Toronto, Burlington, Hamilton, Georgetown, Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge, Oakville, Mississauga and little towns in between.
