Searching for information on my great, great grandparents from Ireland

Hi everyone, im having trouble finding information on my great, great grandparents. Michael Mahony, born 1816 in Shanbally, County cork, died 1901, and his wife Catherine Brosnahan, born either 1821 or 1825 in Meentogues, County kerry. There were married in 1846 at Rathmore in County Kerry, she died in 1876. Im try to trace their parents. For Michael, ive been looking at Timothy Mahony and Ellen Sullivan, but i cant verify it, both County Cork i gather. For Catherine, possibly a Michael Brosnahan as her father. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One way to draw attention to your question is to go back to the question and open it for edit. When it is open you will see a place to add tags.  Add the surnames and Ireland.

Folks researching those names will get your question in their "Feed".

Good Luck

Were they only married for 10 yrs or did the marriage end when Catherine died? You have the marriage ending in 1856 after 10 yrs of marriage.

Hi John, i just fixed it, not sure why it had 1856 on there. They were married until Catherine's death in 1876. Their second son Daniel migrated to New Zealand sometime in the 1870s, and thats where the Mahony side of my family started

Catherine died in Knocknagree in 1876. Have you looked at other 'Mahoney's' in this village on 1901 Census? It is not a very big village and is just 5km north of Rathmore. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knocknagree

Hi Patrick, thanks for that, i have looked, but cant find anything, i have a 1901 census record from Shanbally, Knocknagree which is the O.Keefe's. Michael was living with his daughter Kate and her husband and family. I beleive Michael passed away about 3 months after that census. Do you have a record of Catherine's death in Knocknagree.

Hi Daniel,  here is a link to Michael's death 15th July 1901 in Shanballa with Michael Keeffe as the informant. https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1901/05715/4612558.pdf
Thanks Patrick, now ive got to find Catherines death record. You said she died in Knocknagree, but where was she buried. Ive been looking in cementaries around the area, but so far i havent found anything.

    Regards

Also on that 1901 census is Con Mahony. He is likely to be a son of Michael's. Con 'Cornelius' is still living with the O'Keeffe's in 1911 census.http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Cork/Knocknagree/Shanbally/436477/   As for Catherine's death in Knocknagree.... I just got that information from her Wikitree entry

Hi Patrick, yes, that seems to be her, the dates match as well. Now i know she was born in 1821 and not 1825 as i originally thought. And i have the marriage record. Im wondering who Michael Brosnahan is, is it Catherines father.

The marriage in 1846 is on Irishgeneaology.ie but it has not been digitized yet. Witness 1 Henry Callaghan, Witness 2 Michael Brosnahan. FindMyPast gives a link to Rathmore for the marriage but you need to scroll to 19 Feb 1846 and try find the record. https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000635083#page/1/mode/1up
