Hear Ye, Hear Ye

If you are interested in people who are famous, notable, noted, significant, important, historic, heroic, or otherwise fascinating, then the Notables Project might be for you!

The idea behind this post is for anyone who needs help with connecting Notables to the tree to post to this thread and ask for help, or if you want to tell us whom you have successfully connected up, or if you want to join the Notables Project and get a badge.

Besides checking out the Notables Project page, don't forget to take a look at the Notables List page, where you can find lists of Notables who have profiles which aren't yet connected to the main tree. (For ideas on way to connect unconnected people and branches, see the Hints and Tips on the Connectors Chat page.)

Notables should fulfill the criteria to have at  least one Wikipedia page in any language to qualify as a Notable. But an entry in the country's NATIONAL Who's Who or a NATIONAL Biography is also acceptable as well.

The Notables team will decide if a Living Notable's Profile can be made Public or not. Usually that means the Notable has at least 3  Wikipedia Pages in other languages. The page or pages must also include the name of at least one close or nuclear family member (Specifically parents, siblings, spouse or child). if the page should also happen to list grandparents, aunts/uncles and cousins in the "other relatives" list, those would also be helpful.

I have adopted the profile for musician Lou Reed of the Velvet Underground, as it was orphaned. Lou is an unconnected notable. I might be related to Lou through his mother, Toby, née Futterman, whose profile I've also adopted as it orphaned as well.

If possible, I would like to have the Notables Project added as a profile manager for Lou, as I am currently the only profile manager.

by Andrew Futterman G2G1 (1.2k points)

I've improved the profile giving it the notables flavor. I also created The Velvet Underground free space page.

The Notables Project does not generally add themselves to the profiles of deceased notables unless they are somehow in need of extra security.

Are you aware that it is okay to "orphan" profiles. If you are no longer interested in managing a profile, it is perfectly acceptable to remove yourself as profile manager, allowing another interested member to adopt it sometime down the road.
Excellent, thank you.
Okay thanks, I actually didn't know that. I was under the impression that if a person is notable, their profile was to be managed by the Notables Project, regardless of whether they're living or deceased.

I'm perfectly happy remaining as profile manager for Lou Reed and Toby (Futterman) Reed, and assisting with adding information about both of them as it might help with my own family research (as I mentioned previously, I might be a relative of Toby Futterman, hence my adopting both of their previously-orphaned profiles).
A Project has to manage a profile of a living Notable to be able to make it visible in case the person has Wikipedia-pages in at least three languages (no matter if English/Spanish/Mandarin or Bretonish/Cornish/Frisian). Even then it doesn't have to be the Notable Project, but can be e.g. the Germany Project or the Latin American Project.
The Notables Project likes to be a co-manager of LIVING profiles, though.

Actor Andre Braugher has passed away unexpectedly at the age 61. Braugher is best known for having played Det. Frank Pembleton on Homicide: Life in the Street, and Capt. Raymond Holt on police comedy Brookly Nine-Nine.

I think his LNAB is Braugher - not Brougher. We'll need to update that. Thanks.

I corrected it. New WTID is Braugher-2.

Awh. I so enjoyed his acting abilities. I made sure to keep the accent on his first name and improved his bio, too.

British-Canadian billionaire businessman Willard Gordon Galen Weston (1940-2021) is still living according to his WikiTree profile, but has Wikipedia pages in nine languages, including an English-language page, which confirms that he died over two years ago, citing three separate obituaries.  His father is a Notable, but shouldn't the son also be?

ABA and NBA player George McGinnis has passed away at the age of 73. He has no current profile.

A couple of us have added family to him and now his lines and his wife's lines are started. His Connections are at 12 now, but obviously he's not connected yet. I may have time to return back to him at some point, but if anyone else has an interest, at least there's some starting places to work from.

Scott, could you please add to Grimaldi-22 (the current Prince of Monaco) the following categories:

Olympians Representing Monaco category

International Olympic Committee Members category

1988 Olympic Winter Games category

1992 Olympic Winter Games category

1994 Olympic Winter Games category

1998 Olympic Winter Games category

1998 Olympic Winter Games category and

Sledding category.

Btw, why is he unlisted? He should be yellow at least, there are enough Wikipedia entries about him.
by Jelena Eckstädt G2G Astronaut (1.5m points)
Well, to answer your first question last - no one had identified him as a Notable, even though they had put the Notables account on as co-manager. So he didn't show up on searches for the team. I fixed it and put the template on his profile, added PPP, added the categories, and moved him to Yellow privacy. Thanks for pointing him out!

Actress Marisa Pavan, twin sister of Pier Angeli, passed away on 6 December. Her profile needs to be updated and listed. Thanks!

I sent the Profile Manager a request to update the profile, but Notables has no access to that specific profile. Thanks.
Thank you!

I created a profile for Salome Zourabichvili, current President of Georgia (the country). She will be connected as cousin of Hélène Carrère d'Encausse, who is currently being worked on as part of the 2023 Notables Memorial topic.

(Her LNAB is not in Georgian because she was French-born).

Our Five-Star Challenge is still ongoing, although we've had a short pause that is a bit natural during the holiday season. There's still progress being made, although some of the profiles involved are quite challenging. Here's our current progress:

Round 1 (Actors)

 • Profiles Connected - 17 of 33 (52%)
 • CC7 start: 407
 • CC7 current: 1,643 (+1,236 connections!)
Round 2 (Politicians/Religious Figures)
 • Profiles Connected - 6 of 22 (27%)
 • CC7 start: 578
 • CC7 current: 1,321 (+743 connections!)
So we've connected 23 5-star profiles and added 1,979 CC7 connections to these profiles. A little push and we'll pop over 2,000. If you have an interest, even if they're already connected, you can add to their CC7, work to improve their connectivity so that we're closing in on a connection, or even get them connected to the global tree. Thanks for all you do.

Hello,

I'd like to join the Notables project. In my wikitree journey so far I've come across a few Notables when I have been fleshing out family lines. Where possible, I have connected a few to their families. So this sounds right up my alley.

How do I nominate someone to become a "notable"?

I would like to put forward John Cook/Cooke (Cook-40180). One of the regicides of Charles I, Cook argued against summary execution, and demanded a fair trial for the king. One of the legal world's icons.
by Darren Pine G2G4 (4.9k points)
So if he already has a Wikipedia page in any language, he's already a Notable. In this case, that's an easy one as he already has a Wikipedia page.

Laura Lynch, founding member of the Dixie Chicks, Was killed today in a vehicle accident.

https://ca.news.yahoo.com/laura-lynch-founding-dixie-chicks-202416510.html

The group as a whole has a Wikipedia page.

Laura did have a Wikipedia page, but that is now directed to the group page - possibly because she was a past member.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chicks
by Robynne Lozier G2G Astronaut (1.3m points)
Because she is a founding member and integral to the band, she would qualify as a Notable. The general rule of thumb with groups is that if that person was an integral member of the band, then they would qualify. If they were just a play-in person for the band, or someone they just picked up for a song on their album or a position on their tour, and didn't have an integral role in the band, then they wouldn't be able to qualify with the group as they were not a key part of the group.
