Revolutionary War soldier?

Hello,

I have tracked down online sources which tend to verify the research done by my late mother regarding this ancestor (John William Blakely, married Rachel Orr). One wierd anomoly is that mom cited a D.A.R. roster from Indiana as evidence that this person served in the revolutionary war. I found a number of other indications that he served in the 3rd SC regiment. But when I went online to search the D.A.R. database, I could not find any confirmation. Can anyone with a more intimate knowledge of the material please check?

Thanks!

He is listed as a DAR Patriot as BLAKESLEE, JOHN SR at https://services.dar.org/Public/DAR_Research/search_adb/?action=full&p_id=A011036

Also a SAR Patriot but as John BLAKELY Sr

Ah yes... but the DAR entry you cite also has a warning - which may not be relevant, but which prompted my request for verification / assistance: PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN DISCOVERED WITH AT LEAST ONE PREVIOUSLY VERIFIED PAPER - SEE ANCESTOR’S FULL RECORD

Further in the record the issue is stated....

NO EVIDENCE SON THOMAS HAD A WIFE OTHER THAN MARGARET MCGAFFEY.

The DAR issue with this John Blakeslee appears to be with the lineage through his son Thomas based on the DAR comments: " 1) EL - NO EVIDENCE SON THOMAS HAD A WIFE OTHER THAN MARGARET MCGAFFEY.  Created: 2015-04-21 09:13:29.0, Updated: 2015-04-21 09:13:29.0, By: 2) SEE DATACF. 4/2015"

To verify if this is the specific reason for the "Red Flag"  you can contact the DAR.

Thanks Carol (and Robin!),

I had also noticed that the "red flag" seemed to refer to a separate issue - not to the question of service, but to a question of descent. Thank you both VERY much for your help - I think that is enough to confirm my late mother's research as far as the revolutionary war goes. Still trying to track down more conclusive evidence linking this "Blakely" to the "Blakeslee" family from Ireland. It appears likely that the family arrived in Philadelphia, moved West to Cumberland and then South through Virginia to South Carolina. But the inconsistant spelling of the last name makes it difficult to know for sure...
