DBE notice on profile seems wrong

I keep coming across error notices that read as follows (from one profile for an example)

Error?   Link error various Help →401 Unauthorized
http://www.nosorigines.org/GenealogieQuebec.aspx?genealogy=Marie_Poutre&pid=53753&lng=en&partID=53752

There is nothing wrong with the link itself, so it's certainly not a DBE as such.  Nos origines as a site is not counted among reliable sources pre-1700, (it's a tree site with variable sourcing), but that does not make it ''unauthorized''.  Just insufficient for sourcing purposes.  It's only when it's the only ''source'' on a profile that it becomes a sourcing problem, not DBE.

Has somebody gone overboard on classifying ''errors''?  This is going to generate all sorts of needless traffic as is.

This is because from where he is Aleš cannot access nosorigines. See this June G2G comment.

However, he did say there that he was programming the scan not to generate suggestions in cases like this.

hmm, that explains it.  There are other similar things showing up, I think the bot that tries to check links needs some major rethink.  I see things like PRDH URLs that have been converted to templates also getting odd things, and if one accesses PRDH through our provincial archives, the link for that is different, but unless you are in this province will lead nowhere, as one has to have a specific library membership (free, but you gotta live here) wink

I have had a few like that, mostly sites that are about local history in specific areas of Ontario

I can access them but Aleš apparently can't.

More recently because of changes to Canada's new social media law, I am finding many sites that I can no longer access through a Google search.

The ones I have bookmarked are okay.

Many sites actually show a ''I'm not a robot'' box now, which obviously the bot cannot answer correctly.  This may lead to more false errors. sad

Depending on the sending and receiving locations for security reasons; changing the http to https in the url will sometimes allow the url link to work.

i.e. https://www.nosorigines.qc.ca/GenealogieQuebec.aspx?genealogy=Marie_Poutre&pid=53753&lng=en&partID=53752#google_vignette

that's not the issue Stanley, it's the little notices one sees at the bottom of a profile in edit mode that states there is a problem with the link, various types of problems show up when in fact there is no actual problem reaching the site linked.  Bot verification limitation from what I can see.
Yes .. you are correct Danielle for our locations .. {Canada and USA]  .. For other locations that don't accept the http format, [like where Ales is sending from]  changing to the https format can sometimes solve the WikiTree "Bot" link issue. [Otherwise it is a false DB suggestion for your location. Some operating software block the use of http as a security measure.] Great question thank you for your share.
