Hacktoberfest 2023 Kickoff and Video Live Chat

Hi WikiTreers!

It is October and WikiTree's Hacktoberfest is here!

For the second year, WikiTree's open-source projects are part of DigitalOcean's Hacktoberfest. Programmers and app developers are invited to help by adding or improving views on the Tree Apps tab or features in the WikiTree Browser Extension. If you haven’t signed up to participate yet, please reply to this G2G post. We are also inviting testers to be part of the challenge, so even if you don't know how to program, you can be part of the fun.

Everyone is invited to hang out with us on Thursday afternoons at 1pm Eastern Time on YouTube. Greg Clarke and other special guests will talk about what went on each week, give demos of our progress, and ask for feedback.

This first week will be a kickoff to Hacktoberfest: Greg and I will talk a bit about what Hacktoberfest is, what we accomplished last year, what we hope to accomplish this year, and will ask for ideas from you guys on what you would like to see participants work on this year.

I can't make Thursdays (choir practice—and we're already practising for Christmas!!), but I'll be with you in spirit and look for any recordings. ;)

Thursdays must be universal choir practice night!  We have ours at 7pm (Eastern time) - but I haven't handed out the Advent/Christmas music yet ... guess I'd better get going!

Have fun at practice! (If you're tenor ... I could use you in my choir! ....).  Please watch the replay and comment there!

I'm pretty sure that every choir I've been in has had practice night on a Thursday… times varying greatly!

…and yes, I'm what they call 'a useful tenor'… although last Sunday I was singing bass because my throat was in a terrible state. lol

I will give feedback.

May we please have the option to “do away with” the right-hand column on Free Space Pages (so those pages can make use of all the page’s real estate)?

Thank you for raising this, Peter. It was considered in a proposal in October 2020, but it seems that no decision was reached.

I'm 99% sure we are getting rid of the right-hand column, but it's waiting for the rest of the front-end redesign.
