Curating profiles relating to Irish people and their descendants around the globe.

Who Should Join?

If you are interested in helping to improve Irish profiles and would enjoy collaborating with a team of like-minded people, consider joining this project and working on one of the project’s many teams.

What’s In It For You?

  • Expert Help: Real-time access to some of the most experienced Irish researchers on WikiTree... join us on the project’s Discord server whenever you have a question and/or need help, or just to chat.
  • An Ireland Project badge: find new friends who share some of your own genealogical interests, and the satisfaction that comes from working as part of a team.

How To Join:

  1. Review the project page here and check out our goals, guidelines and standards. We do require that you be a member (in good standing) of WikiTree and have made at least 100 contributions to our shared tree.

  2. Request the badge by posting an answer (not a comment) to this post; comments will be removed to avoid confusion.

  3. Include with your post links to at least two profiles you've created or edited that demonstrate your understanding of WikiTree editing and formatting, good sourcing, inline citations and respect for copyright if applicable when posting pictures or text. Also let us know what team(s) you would like to be part of.

  4. Add Irish_Roots to your list of followed tags.

  5. When you receive a badge, you will be invited to join the Project’s Google Group and Discord server. You are strongly encouraged to join at least one of these groups as they are the way that project members collaborate on profiles and on activities going on within the project.

Thank you for all you do to improve Irish profiles on WikiTree.

Hi, I am interested in joining the Irish Project. My biggest brick wall is my Irish gr-gr-Grandmother. I've been researching her for 15 years. Although hindered by lack of records, recent DNA matches in Ireland are narrowing her origin down to either Counties Armagh or Down in Northern Ireland. She was born about 1835 and birth records are scarce for that time.

I'm looking to learn how others have faced such challenges.

I'm currently at 295 contributions.

Recent updates are Goris-66 and Quinn-10865 (my gr-gr-grandmother)

Hi Jen,

Trying again. I think I have learned quite a bit since my last attempt.  I have added "Irish_Roots" to my profile and have been working on my grandparents profiles, as well as the profile for my maternal grandfather. Of course, there is still much to do. I also have Irish ancestors from my birth family. My second great grandmother, Josephine O'Hern was born in County Limerick.

O'Connell-3254

Cloonan-69

Cloonan-74

The Cloonans are from County Galway. My O'Connell/Connell ancestors are from County Cork. They are a bit of a challenge as they lived in and out of the workhouses.

Hi Michael,

Wow! You've blown me away! Great work on those profiles. Will you send me a private message letting me know what email address you would like to use for the project's google group? As soon as I hear from you, I'll be able to get you badged and set up with the county team.

I request being added to this group and receiving a badge. I have been working hard on my Co. Roscommon ancestors: Higgins, Brennan, Logan, Carroll, Carlos.

Examples:

I am willing to pitch in to area of greatest need.
