It appears this profile needs some additional attention by the PGM Project. It is now clearly indicated that Ann (Unknown) Barlow is not Anne Ward found in Anderson. A reference to a marriage record on the husband profile is somehow truncated before the information is given. Is anyone in the project working on this? Happy to see what can be corrected with primary evidence. I just happened to look at this lineage today as this is an ancestor of Jimmy Buffet.

This thread has been reopened as there are several unresolved issues with the profiles in this family. The change of the estimated "marriage by" year to 1630 was questioned based on the current estimated births of the two eldest children.

John Barlow, wife and children, there doesn't seem to be any evidence for him being from Lancashire and the cited Larry Daniel's book is said to also come to this conclusion ("Daniels says he can find no evidence for this connection.") but I can't find access to that book. We have some children profiles showing Lancashire birth absent documentation.

I've not done a terribly deep dive on this but since we don't appear to have much other than conjecture for marriage dates on the children which may have been born in England, the birth estimates may be in error--perhaps by some margin. There are no primary sources and how Torrey arrived at his "by 1630" is uncertain although I believe that is in the ballpark (my math would probably say by 1628). Anderson does not address John Barlow in TGM, GMD or the Newsletters.

I have not looked for court testimony by any of the children which might help establish an age at a particular point in time but if this did exist, it has not been found by Jacobus or Daniels. My inclination is to revisit the estimated birth years (and place) of the children thought born in England. The Lancashire connection doesn't seem to be supported by any evidence other than common names on one document.

The Larry Daniels 'book' cited on some of the profiles is a 1993 typescript of 30+ pages which is found at FamilySearch but hard to locate. WorldCat shows 3 copies of this work, world-wide. The first sentence of the section on Barlow reads "With the Barlows, we enter into the realm of fantasy." No documentation beyond that found by Jacobus is cited so this is an entirely secondary source. He appears to endorse the myth that John Barlow is the offspring of Sir Alexander Barlow, an idea WikiTree has rejected. The typescript contains a lineage chart from the Barlows to Charlemagne though Daniels states the connection from John Barlow to Sir Alexander Barlow cannot be found. The work also misidentifies John's wife Ann as Ann Ward and the only year of birth suggested for any of the children is for Deborah with a year that is at odds with what WikiTree presently shows.

Dale Kellogg, FOGS, (Connecticut Nutmegger 25:549 | Subscription link https://www.americanancestors.org/databases/connecticut-nutmegger/image?volumeId=11796&pageName=549) in a detailed examination of known evidence suggests a year of birth for Ann 1630-32; Elizabeth 1628-30; John 1644; Martha 1640; Deborah 1631-32; Isabella 1638-39; Ruth 1645-48. Kellogg concludes the marriage of John Barlow and Ann was about 1627 with Elizabeth as the first child born 1628.
