I use Ancestry also. Previously I had over 10,000 hints now I have less than 2,000. What happened?

I use Ancestry, also.  The last time I looked at it I had over 10,000 hints now I have less than 2,000.  What happened?

When a hint gets 'old' it gets removed from the count—the hints are still there, but no longer get counted.  It's very confusing.
