Why is my 4th great grandfather shown as my 2nd cousin 6x removed?

My 3rd ggf b. 1805 Joseph Melanson-1507 is correct.

My 5th ggf b. 1735 Jean Pierre Melanson-143 is correct.

My 4th ggf b. 1780 Maxime Melanson-1423 is incorrect.

It displays as 2nd cousin 6x removed. When I click "more" it shows we are connected 13 different ways but not as my 4th ggf. I was trying to trace my ancestry from Michel Hache to me and this was the only relationship display error on a profile. All of my sources are accurate.

It correctly says 4th great-grandfather when I try it on https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:Relationship and enter Geer-1686 and Melanson-1423

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your answer. I guess, when there are multiple relationships, it is best to double check with the relationship finder.

Cheers,

Ralph
It is not really obvious from your question but I'm guessing you are seeing the issue in the "Distance and Relationship" feature of the WikiTree Browser Extension? If so that might be a bug in the extension if it is not showing the closest relationship or an incorrect relationship.
Yes. I posted this to bring attention to that. My having 13 different relationships didn't help any. It would be nice to have the closest relationship shown and then the 13 other relationships in the MORE button.
My guess: You've had the WBE installed for a while - since before Maxime's son, Joseph (your ancestor) was attached to Maxime.  The first time you visited Maxime's profile, the relationship and distance were stored.  They stay stored until you refresh the data by clicking the distance number.  Try clicking the distance number and see if that fixes it.
(I apologise if my assumption is wrong.)
That fixed it. Now it shows he is my 4th ggf like he should. Thanks. It is simple when you know what to do. :)
