New Tree App: Descendants

I've made a new Descendants Tree App. Here's an example primary person: https://www.wikitree.com/apps/Darwin-15#name=Darwin-15&view=descendants .   I hope some people find it helpful.

There's a 'help' text revealed by the '?' in the top right of the page. Please read that before asking any questions.

Let me know if you find any bugs.

Thanks.

Thank you Ian for your hard work, it amazes me. Makes my head hurt trying to figure out how you did it all.  I will enjoy spending time  with the Descendants Ap. Thankful you are part of Wiki Tree.

Great app Ian! Very nicely crafted.  I especially like the buttons to show ONLY those descendants who share the Y Chromosome or mtDNA (mitochondrial DNA) - or - who follow the X Chromosome inheritance path!  Very nicely done.

I also learned a new term - the Aboville # (for uniquely counting descendants by generation e.g. 7.1.2 would be the seventh child's firstborn's second child). Very cool !

This makes a very nice companion to the Fan Chart which is all about ancestors - I think I'll put a direct link to this in the Person Popup in my next update to the Fan Chart!

Great job!

Thank you.  Glad you like it. smiley

The Aboville numbering system is also called the d'Aboville numbering system.  I'm not sure which is better (most widely used or most correct).  I've found it really useful for debugging as someone can tell me the primary person and the Aboville number of the descendant and they're very easy to find in the descendants tree.

The inventor of the system is the French genealogist Jacques d'Aboville. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacques_d'Aboville

Per the naming conventions for European aristos the LNAB would be "Aboville" and the Current Last Name "d'Aboville". Pick you choice. laugh

French genealogists say "numérotation d'Aboville".

And, BTW, Jacques d'Aboville profile can easily be added and connected. We have his father here : https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Aboville-1

Nice thank you so much !

Great job, Ian. Neat and very useful with the many show/hide options.

Thank you.  I tried to make it very flexible in terms of what information is shown or not shown.  Glad you like it.
I like how the show/hide is instant!

Great work! Will have to look at it more in detail later, but it looks like everything I'd include off the wish list, if it were my design.

This APP, like all of them, is on my ToDo list when I get a new computer & an actually US these things & get the good out of them that was intended.

That HAS to come soon since my toy computer decided to go silent in the C, D, E & 2 keys. Had to swipe my daughters gaming keyboard & it's a TRIP with it all lit up in colors as it is, but every once I'm awhile it decides to "dance" through the colors. Weird!

But I am looking forward to trying this APP out. Thanks, Ian!

EDIT:

Whoops! Started out on the toy keyboard; words make more sense when that line is active! LOL!

Thanks again for this great app. It's clearly shows, for example, the Pocahontas descendants so well that we can spot "problem" relatives!

Thank you, Ian and WikiTree. I appreciate the Descendants Tree App. The Descendants Tree app is an excellent connection to a family who share the inheritance of DNA.

Very nice, Ian.  You provided so much for detailed options.  One thing I kept wanting to know for my family is what was my relationship.  I needed to open each profile to look.  Is there a way you can incorporate that information into the table?
by Cindy Cooper G2G6 Pilot (334k points)
Hi Cindy.  This may be possible. I have to think about it a little.  I think it would be good, too.

Thanks for creating the chart! It makes things come together, especially those of us that aren't that computer savy enough to understand computers to create programs to make the charts! I really appreciate it!

Thank you so much Ian! It is wonderful to know this is real. I always wondered if it was, though I have other tribal connections too, this one is important.
