Why has WikiTree sourcer changed?

Until today, if I was in Ancestry and found a source I wanted to use, I could click on the little "puzzle piece" in my toolbar, and it would offer me the chance to look in Family Search. Now that option has gone....might be connected to my recent renewal of Ancestry, but how do I get it back...really handy and I miss it!!

It recently told me that it needed new permissions. When I gave it the new permissions the piece reappeared. If you go to "manage extensions" you should be able to fix that. if not, do as suggested and reinstall it.

I was able to use it. You may need to reinstall Sourcer. To do this, do a Google search for WikiTree Sourcer. Install using the Google link.

This time, it was turned off...probably a process as Ancestry processed my renewal. Thank you!

I released version 1.9.0 of Sourcer recently. I increase the middle number of the version number when I change the extensions permissions. In this release I added support for three new web sites so this required adding permissions to access them.

However, when the permissions change Chrome will automatically disable the extension (so that you can check you are OK with the new permissions). This will mean that it is no longer "pinned" so the [1] will not show up in the toolbar.

All you need to do is re-enable it. To do that click on the puzzle piece and then "Manage Extensions" at the bottom of the menu. This takes you to the extension management page. Under WikiTree Sourcer you will see a toggle switch - toggle this to on.

Rob,

I tried the WikiTree Sourcer app again on my toy computer. No go, I have another WikiTree Sourcerer Error report. I have a screen shot of both the Sourcer error report saying that my browser may be prior to Firefox 89 & the Firefox Browser info  saying that Firefox is up to date with 116.0.2 (64-bit).

I keep trying, don't ask me why, but I still get the same results. This computer is old, but I don't believe that is the issue, but the issue is probably on my end, I'm just giving you users data so you can see how this works (doesn't) for me. My installed memory is 4gb & I am so maxxed out on space that files are saved to external Seagate 1TB external drive. This & then what would I do once I got in there since the developers assure me there is no way to add any expansion slots or memory on this computer. It is a closed system & the motherboard is completely enclosed. There is no way to add memory. If I were to TRY to get in, I would have to find out how to open the plastic case

I have had to get rid of Windows because there isn't enough space on here to have it on the computer & have the computer run. This thing gets on the internet, period. Any bells & whistles it used to have are long gone because it takes up too much resources.

While I am willing to be any kind of tester you want for this thing, I can't see that I am really contributing any useful information that you could use for more than just 1 user with unique limitations. Am I done now? Can I just wait till I get my new computer to be able to experience all those lovely tricks it can make the browser do that I keep hearing about & want to experience myself? Do you want the screenshot just for S's&G's?

Pat
Hi Pat,

Yes, please send me the info. It sounds like it is failing to load the extract data module - that is what causes the error message about Firefox 89. If you get the error please do this in Firefox: Tools -> Browser -> Tools -> Web Developer Tools.

This should open a window pane at the bottom of the current window. Click on the "Console" tab of this pane and see if there are any error message there like:

"WikiTree Sourcer: error in loadExtractDataModule. Path is: ..."
Can't send you the attachments as all I have is the message from g2g chat & it already screamed at me. Can't attach to anything from your page. Don't know how to attach here. The report came back with 108 & 109 exceptions. You could read these yourself if I could send them to you.

Since I'm SURE this is not the first time this has come up, has there ever been a dedicated WikiTree email that the WikiTree Tech team can access to have people send you these reports?
