Are you a member of the New England Historic Genealogical Society (NEHGS)?

Hi WikiTreers!

I'm working on building up on our genealogy society categories on WikiTree as we are hoping to draw in more societies and their members, particularly to make use of our MyConnections feature where they will be able to see how members of their societies are connected. 

If you are a member of NEHGS would you be willing to add the category to your profile?

It's [[Category:New England Historic Genealogical Society]]. 

You could also get the Genealogical Society Member badge if you don't have it yet.  Just post an answer below and we'll award it to you. :-)

Eowyn, this is probably a niave question but can I assume that just having a subscription to AmericanAncestors.org isn't the same thing as being a member of the NEHGS?

Leigh Anne, I don't believe that NEHGS offers paid "subscriptions" separate from membership. if you pay dues, you are a member of NEHGS.  And membership includes other benefits like access to the NEHGS Library in Boston, whether or not you use those benefits.

Does this mean that WikiTree is looking for members to create categories for additional Genealogical societies that don't have categories yet?

Yes! It's a great tool we can share with societies who might be interested in how their members are connected.

Daniel, to add yourself to the category, put the string [[Category:New England Historic Genealogical Society]] in the text section of your profile.

I'd love to see more societies and their members be involved in WT.  I've added the categories for NEHGS, NGS, and NYG&B.

Please let me know if you'd like me to contact any of the other societies of which I'm a member to ask if they want to create/publicize a free-space page and category.  Do you have any text/files to highlight the benefits to societies?

If fellow members of a society coordinated with each other to propose a category, it would probably help gain traction, and possibly even demonstrate some connections.

I've added the categorization to my profile, I love the NEHGS. I was just bugging one their chat genealogists with questions about heraldry and coats of arms, they're always very helpful.

I'd like to get the badge added to my profile too...I'm new so I have a bad case of "badge envy"

Yes,I have been a member for years and have received a lot of data and sources for my Hunter One-Name Study.  I particular like finding Hunters who were masons.

I would love to show the badge and category to my profile.
