I found the site for listing births (up to 100 years ago), deaths (up to 70 years ago), and marriages (not up yet) in Saskatchewan, Canada: http://genealogy.ehealthsask.ca/vsgs_srch.aspx I haven’t managed to find any hits there yet, but I don’t have very many family who fall within the parameters of the site, so my sample size is pretty small.

Hi Greg!  Have you gone back in to try in the meantime?

I'm grateful that they are putting the records online, but I have to say it is one of the most awkward search engines for genealogical purposes that i have ever seen.

Maybe someone should tell them??? or is it just me?

BTW, maybe all the Death records have the 'place' left blank, so if you actually put in a place, it won't find any record that matches, rather than finding all records that match other parameters, as it says it will do with the Births.

I came to this conclusion after running several searches for Deaths for an imaginary J Smith.  None of the death records indexed a location.  If i put the location as Regina, or Saskatoon or Wascana, and the timeframe as before 1950, i got no hits at all.  Doesn't seem likely that no-one called J Smith ever died in Regina.

If i left the 'place' blank, i got 41 hits with the most recent ones being in 1916, pretty much as the intro material stated.

Anyway, just wondered if you would have better luck finding yours if you leave out any info about location.

I tried several births with as many different combinations as I could think of and got zero results. For deaths I managed to find a few results but, as you mentioned, I had to leave the location blank. Saskatchewan is not a good place for finding good sources!

No, Shirlea, I haven't been working in Saskatchewan recently. I'm trying to work through BC, then Nova Scotia, then New Brunswick, then Manitoba, then Saskatchewan, and then probably Yukon. I'll leave Ontario for when I have lots of time (and Maalox).

Hi Greg. Love the comment about the Maalox. Laughed out loud. Been there. My Dad's side is all Ontario. Brick walls for years. Such joy after Roman Catholic records other than the Drouin collection became available online.

Good luck with your Ontario people when you get there.
