Error uploading image to free space page [closed]

On the free space for the 106th field and staff in the top left corner is an image box that I was going to place the regiment flag to however after uploading I was going to add it to the other free spaces but for some reason an error. I tried to remove it from the left top corner of the free space but seems to say bad title.

Need a Wikitree tech to figure out how that happened and if it can even be used in that box?

Thank you

Note: I have seen how other free space pages have applied this technique and used the corner box for the regt flag so not sure why the error

Hi Andrew. To fix the image in the upper left I opened the image from the Introduction section and added the Space page to it. I then set it as the primary photo. If you want to change it now you can, but clicking on it brings you to the picture now.

Thank so you!

Is it possible to add it to the other 106th free space pages in the same location top left corner?

Yes. You can add as many Spaces as you want to an image.

(scroll down on the image page past the comments)

Andrew, what Mindy did is precisely what I outlined in my answer, but asked you to hold off doing until Jamie had an opportunity to figure out why the problem happened.

You don't have to upload the same image to each page you want to display it on.  Once an image is on any page, you can go to the image's page by clicking on it anywhere it is displayed (like in the main section of your space page).  On the image's page, you can attach more pages to the image and you can also designate the image to be primary on any of the pages attached to it.  "Primary" means that a thumbnail (a small version) of the image is displayed in that top left space on the page.

Thanks! yes

I knew how to link images with the profile ID but when it glitched I wasn’t able to. I should of used the flag image on profile and added to it instead of trying to click on thumbnail and load it but ithought I tried it that way first either way I get it.

So much appreciate the quick resolution it’s been a while since I’ve updated a free space. Maybe I got a bit rusty!laugh

Both you guys deserve the star; such a huge help. I hope this g2g helps others  smiley

Andrew, looking at your space page, it appears that the image is primary and also linked from the main part of the page.  I observed the following:

  1. When hovering over the image in the main part of your page, the image's link address is shown (at bottom left of the browser window) as:  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Image:Civil_War_Flags-56.png. When I click that link, the image's page is correctly displayed.
  2. When hovering over the image thumbnail on your page, the image's link address is seen as:  https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Image:106th%20New%20York%20Infantry%20Regiment%20Field%20and%20Staff.jpg&action=edit.  Clicking that link results in the "bad title message" you mentioned.  It is immediately obvious why that is a bad link - it is identifying the image file as having been uploaded to your page, rather than its correct location.
  3. When I look at the image's page (by clicking the image in the main part of your page), I can see that your page is not attached to it, therefore this image file is NOT displayed as the primary image on your page, nor is it seen on the right side in the main page section.

There is clearly an error here.  I could recommend a way that would possibly correct it, but hesitate to do so because there is clearly a bug somewhere that is causing the image file not attached to your page to be displayed as the primary image on it, with an incorrect link to its location.  Please edit this question and do the following:

  1. add the word bugs to the tags.
  2. remove data_doctors from the tags.  They have nothing to do with the WikiTree software and most of them are unlikely to be able to figure out what's happening.
  3. you can, if you wish, also remove the tag free-space_profiles because this error is not specific to free spaces - it could just as easily have occurred on a profile page.

Because this is clearly a bug, please DO NOT attempt to make any changes to your space page until Jamie has a chance to see it the way it is now.  The action I'm thinking might fix the problem - BUT PLEASE DON'T TRY IT UNTIL JAMIE RESPONDS HERE - is to go to the image page and attach your space page to it, then select it as the primary image for your space page.
