About a month ago, I posted the above question concerning the parents of Margaret Mary Snider (Studebaker-49). So far, nobody has responded, maybe because there are no primary sources. If one looks at the book ¨The Studebaker family in America¨ by Walter Carlock et al., a definite work on the genealogy of the Studebakers, there is no mention that the parents of Margaret Mary Snider are Peter Studebaker and Anna Aschauer. On page 707 of that book, ¨Margaret Studebaker b c1714 (Snider family tradition this Margaret) m JACOB SNIDER SR b 1711. Srvd Revolutionary War.¨ A family tradition said that a Margaret Stufebaker married Jacob Snider. However, no parents are given for this Margaret Studebaker in the family tradition. I would suggest that Peter Studebaker and Anna Aschauer be removed as parents of Margaret Mary Snider.

If you have a good sources for this person, please add your sourced content to the profile.

It looks to me like the profile was created from Gedcom imports that relied almost entirely on low-quality Ancestry.com databases. The profile is in need of better sources and well-written biographical content.

Note that lack of sources is not necessarily a basis for removing content from a profile, nor for removing parents. Start by documenting what is known about this person.
I have no sources for Mary Snider parents. That is the point of my question, what is the bases for the claim for her parents in her profile. All I know is the quote I provided from the book ¨The Studebaker family in America¨. If I were to rewrite the profile I would remove her current parents and leave her parentage as unknown. Quoting ¨The Studebaker family in America¨. But I am not a profile manager so I do not know if I would be allowed. I just want to get the issue out and discussed.
You can revise the TEXT of the profile to discuss whatever confirmed  information exists about this person, whatever speculation and uncertainty exists, and whatever evidence there is that possibly supports or refutes any of the speculation.

The text of a profile is where the main action should be -'where we tell the story of a person's life, show sources, discuss evidence and conflicting opinions, and disclose uncertainties. We shouldn't mess around with removing parents when the profile doesn't even convey a clear idea of who the person was.

The profile for Margaret's husband, Jacob, includes a link to research by Thomas Peel, published on his website at http://thomasstephenneel.com/snider.pdf

Jacob evidently had connections to a Studebaker family, although it's not immediately clear that they were his wife's people.

Identifying Margaret as the daughter of Peter and Anna seems plausible, but by no means proven, and the relationship should probably be marked as uncertain.

Gina,

I am glad that you mentioned that website, as it supports my agrument that the parents of Margaret are unknown. To quote page 14: ¨Many researchers discount the tradition that Margaret Snider was a Studebaker. This maiden name started appearing in print in the 1920s and has been repeated extensively. Descendant Ernest Snider even titles his web site the "Hoax of Jacob Schneider of Back Creek, Virginia." There is no contemporary evidence identifying Margaret as a Studebaker. We should indeed be very wary about identifying Margaret as a Studebaker on tradition alone. On the other hand, if we did not accept anything in our family history unless we had concrete legal proof, we would, I am afraid, not get very far. Half the fun is being first to prove one of these parental theories. We always have to be open to new ideas and willing to change our own course if discounted.¨

Thank you supporting my postion.

Craig
