Revolutionary War is that the correct term?

As an Australian, I am unfamiliar with the terminology is the "Revolutionary War" the same as what I know as the American war of independence?

I have a found a Canadian Royalist who on online sites tell me he is an ancestor of mine and some sources that seem to prove it.

I am rather astounded that I could have any connection to anything in US/Canadian history.  Another avenue of history that a family connection just makes a little bit more interesting.

I would like to put the correct terminology in any relevant profiles, while still being understood by world members.
