New member introducing myself

Hi! I began working on my family tree with my late father about 30 years ago. Thankfully, the Internet has made searching much easier. One of my cousins and I joined the Daughters of the American Revolution a couple of years ago. Due to health restrictions, lineage research is my way of contributing to my DAR chapter.

I currently am helping a descendant of Richard Ledbetter/Leadbetter III of VA, and I am stumped finding documentation of the connection between his son, Richard Ledbetter IV, and his grandson, Moses Ledbetter (b. 1813 NC, d. GA 1855). Moses was a son of Richard Ledbetter IV (1780-1858) and Mary “Polly” Whiteside (1783-1870).

Family trees, family stories, etc. do not meet DAR requirements, and none that I have seen/read have birth or death documentation for Moses Ledbetter.

I have not found a will in NC that matches Moses’ father or death/burial confirmation for Moses. Any suggestions?

Hi Sandra! Welcome to WikiTree! I am Dave Draper and I am delighted to see you join our community. Here, we are passionate about building a single family tree and discovering our ancestry. I hope you find WikiTree as exciting and rewarding as I have. There is a learning curve so here is a link that might help you get started. WikiTree How To Here is How To Do IT

Please feel free to ask anyone about anything on this G2G forum!

That being said, some pretty neat things will happen as you enter your pedigree into the system. You may find that some your family has already been profiled here by cousins you never knew you had!

Here is an illustration: Right now, your pedigree (family line) is sort of floating in mid-air, as illustrated in the picture below.

Illustrated another way: You can't get a vacuum cleaner to run with out plugging the cord into the electrical outlet. Likewise, when your pedigree is plugged into the WikiTree, the connection finder will suck in every ancestor you never knew you had and populate your family tree automatically. That's what happed to me! That is what has happened to everyone of us here on WikiTree. That is the magic of WikiTree!

To connect to the tree, you will need to keep adding your grandfathers and grandmothers in our system until your personal tree hooks into our community tree. Once someone in your pedigree merges with the same person already profiled here, you will be connected to the WikiTree! Then you will find who you seek and so many more! Presidents, Mayflower passengers, movie stars, Kings and Queens are all related or connected to you. You don't know it yet but you are related or connected by a marriage to half the members on this site!

So please keep adding your pedigree and if you get stuck, we are here to help.
