Hi Ann,
I looked at your Eliza Ann's profile and saw that her father has been identified as Littleton Smith. Maybe this is the source of the Littleton/Ledbetter confusion.
If Eliza was born in 1829, she should be on Littleton Smith's 1830 census as a female under the age of five. And voila!
1830; Census: Lauderdale, Alabama; Series: M19;
Roll: 1; Page: 216; FHL Film # 0002328
Name: Littleton Smith
Home in 1830: Lauderdale, Alabama
FWM - 40 thru 49 - 1
FWF - Under 5 - 1
FWF - 15 thru 19 - 1
There are numerous Littleton Smiths in the 1840 Census, but none of them are in Alabama. But when whittled down only one is a match, and it is the Carter County Tennessee family.
Littleton and his wife have added two sons to the family, and both Littleton and his wife are ten years older. And an older female relative is living with them.
I'd look at the names surrounding them in the 1820 Census, and then see if you can find those same families within a couple of pages in TN. No one moved alone.
