Proposal to unlink Gilbert Christian as the son of Patrick Christian and Mary Nettles [closed]

Question

Gilbert Christian is currently connected as the son of Patrick Christian and Mary Nettles. Patrick married Mary in 1683 in Ireland, and Patrick died in 1687 in Ireland giving them a four year window to have any children. There were only two children mentioned in Patrick's will (see his profile), William and Mary.

From Gilbert's profile, he was either born in 1677 in the Isle of Man (from his birth date/location fields) or 1660 in Scotland (from his biography). Neither date/location combination has any sources. His biography does not mention any parents.

I propose that unless there are any reliable sources for Gilbert being the son of Patrick and Mary, that he is disconnected from them. I also propose that the Southern Colonies Project adopt and Project Protect Gilbert's profile to prevent these parents being reattached.

This move will change many family trees including my own dramatically.  

If the goal is to have accurately sourced material and be as factual as possible it is a necessary step.  

Protecting it against changing will be necessary until proof of parentage can be shown with original source documents.  

Hopefully these hard and delayed changing can be made swiftly.   

Those that find themselves adrift with no link to Europe can then rally to find accurate answers.  

Intellectually I know it to be the correct choice.  But I will miss (hopefully temporarily) my previous ancestors.

Thank you Vickie for being so understanding. You have seen this through with me since we first starting untangling Patrick's line. I sincerely hope we can find the origins of Gilbert Christian. Jo
