New member introducing myself

Question

Asking this in the English Project but hitting lots of dead ends and roadblocks.  Lots of missing or incorrect information on tree I'm trying to follow currently.  Going to Isle of Man in two weeks and hoping to have an answer to this question.  With sources that at least most could agree with.  Or is that sometimes not even possible?  I'm new.  
Problem -- 

Regarding Christian Family primarily on Isle of Man and have located some of family in Ireland. Specifically looking for Gilbert Robert Christian who was born 1677 (Ireland or Isle of Man).  Then immigrated to Augusta, County Virginia.  Since so many same names used by this family much of information on Wiki Tree is duplicated or incorrect.  I am going to Isle of Man in a couple of weeks to research what I thought would be ancient relatives.    Only to find out that my information from most web sources is most likely wrong from decedents who still live there and are very much into accuracy.    

Most sources attribute Gilberts' parents as Patricius (son of Illone Dhone) and Mary (Nettles) Christian.   Have found another record that has him related John Christian of Uncrigg Castle married to Isabella Percy, daughter of the Duke of Northumberland of Aln-wick castle.   Says that is in Hutchingson's history of Cumberland county, England vol. 2 page 148.  I have tried to look there and have tried to follow that tree but can't find it.   

The Manx notebook from the Isle of Man has Patricius son of Illone Dhone marrying Ann Moore with no record of a son Gilbert.  Never mentioning a marriage to Mary Nettles. 

I'd like to get this straightened out as I and many others have Gilbert Robert Christian in our tree.   

Have lots more information if needed.  Can you help or steer me in the right direction.   Thanks, Vickie Mullen

Thank-you--- I have all the sources you have provided and more.  What I need now is to get them in the hands of someone who can look them over to see if enough to rewrite one branch of the Illiam Dhone tree.   Which would be a huge deal.

Hi Vicki, I have been doing a bit of poking around and I can't find any reliable source that actually gives a middle name of Robert for this person. Just looking for Gilbert Christian might net you better results.

Hutchinson's genealogy of the Christians has Patricius as the son of William as per Wikitree but does not follow that line down any further which is no help for Gilbert. https://archive.org/details/historyofcountyo02hutc/page/148/mode/2up?q=Christian

The Manx notebook account certainly does have significant differences to other secondary accounts of the family of Illiam Dhone. My one caveat to that is other records "may" have become available since 1885.

If you are going to IOM I would recommend a visit to the IOM Family History Society. They will certainly be able to point you in the direction of the most accurate sources of information.

Need an expert on Illiam Dhone---  

I have all the information you have provided and much more.  What I need is to find someone who is familiar with the Gilbert Robert Christian son of Patricius Christian issue.   

I have the sources that show William Christian (Illiam Dhone) son was married to Ann Moore.  If accurate and verified would change thousands of trees.   

Then Illiam's grandson not the son was the Irish connection.  If the IOM residents who firmly believe this and belong to the History Society then History needs to be redone.   

Is there someone who specializes in Illiam Dhone and his ancestors   It would have to start there and then be changed everywhere.
