Edmonton Jewish Cemetery in Edmonton, Middlesex (London) [closed]

Hi All,

There are 2 separate cemeteries in Edmonton, Middlesex (London). One is run by the Federation of Synagogues FG and the other by the Western Charitable Foundation FG. They are next door to each other on Montague Road but there is no direct access between them and they are completely independent of each other.

There is currently one category called Edmonton Jewish Cemetery, Edmonton, Middlesex. I propose that it is split into Edmonton Federation Jewish Cemetery, Edmonton, Middlesex and Edmonton Western Jewish Cemetery, Edmonton, Middlesex.

I am happy to undertake the task of renaming / creating the categories. I am also willing to edit the 53 currently tagged profiles to ensure they are categorised in the correct cemetery.

Before making any changes, I wished to check that nobody with more experience than me has any objections.

Thanks,

David

Thank you David! The current category points to the Edmonton Federation Jewish Cemetery, so I agree that needs to be renamed to remove ambiguity, and a new category created for the other one. Thank you for spotting the error and resolving it!

I was adding some profiles to the Western Cemetery in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire and needed to create the Category. Since the official name, as best I could tell, doesn't include the word Jewish, I didn't put it in the category name, Category:Western Cemetery, Cheshunt, Hertfordshire. I have marked it in the Affiliation parameter of the infobox.

I have now returned to the categories in this post. I agree that the existing category should become the one for the Federation of Synagogues cemetery. I am however reconsidering how to name them.

In theory, the Federation of Synagogues one does not require Jewish since many would not that Synagogue relates to Judaism. However, there is another Edmonton Cemetery, the word Jewish does help to make it clear. It also makes it easier to find when categorising a profile.

The Western one would not be correct to add Synagogue to its name. Historically, the cemeteries were affiliated with the Western Synagogue. Now, the synagogue has changed its name and the burial society uses the name Western Charitable Foundation. I am thinking to call this one Category:Western Cemetery, Edmonton, Middlesex. The same reservation about not using the word Jewish applies here too.

For clarity, all 3 cemeteries are run under orthodox Jewish lines and only allow the burial of Jewish people.

UPDATE:

I have been through all profiles linked to Category: Edmonton Jewish Cemetery, Edmonton, Middlesex and they all related to burials in the Federation of Synagogues cemetery. I have also added FG references to the profiles that are members of the category but did not have one.

I have created a new category, Category: Edmonton Federation of Synagogues Cemetery, Edmonton, Middlesex and added the rename template to Category: Edmonton Jewish Cemetery, Edmonton, Middlesex.

UPDATE 2: EditBot has now made the rename.
