Holocaust/Jewish Category Suggestions [closed]

Hello there!  I'm working on linking Polish locations to locations of Nazi Death Camps within the Holocaust Project.

I'm just making a note of suggestion as I'm seeing categories that could be merged to reduce redundancy:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Holocaust_Victims  categories should be merged into: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Holocaust_Camps

I see no difference in the two, and it is potentially separating groups of people.  Is there a difference?  Anyone who was positioned at the death camp is a "victim" (and victim does not always imply death).  From the merge and "camp category" profiles can also be added to some of the other categories that fall under the https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Holocaust_Persecution_Victims category.  This is how it should be under the category structure (and how it has been explained to me.)

I would be happy to do this for the Holocaust Project if you would like to give me permission.

Thanks!

Just an update…. Here’s the proposal which addresses this question…. https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1671728/holocaust-project-proposal-adjustment-holocaust-categories

Thank you Elaine!  Closing this thread. :)
In parallel, there is a broader discussion about concentration and internment camps in other countries

Yeah, I don't get it either. Not sure how active the project is, so let's hope someone can explain.

I have another suggestion.  The locations set up in the following category(ies) need to be renamed:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Shtetls%2C_Poland (There are Shtetl categories for Ukraine, Belarus, etc as well)

Is this category is specifying a community of people, and the location having been destroyed or is it merely a general location?

Current instructions: “ Create a category for that shtetl or ghetto, if it doesn't already exist, and place it on the profile, and then place this category name on that category, nesting it here.”

If it is a community of Jewish people only, the name should be changed to: (for example): [[Category: Augustów, Augustów]] needs to be changed to [[Category: Jewish Shtetl; Augustów, Poland]] as I want to integrate it into the Poland Project location category.  The former name as it stands alone is too confusing for someone who opens up the Polish category.  Naming pattern would reflect as it was during the Second Polish Republic. (My fav idea)

-Or is all that is needed is to rename the category using Poland’s new catgory protocol?

I am willing to work through a list online of Shtetl villages for Poland, and do the above with renaming.  My only goal here is to lessen confusion over the location name, and help others find the category under the present day village category.

Let me know if I need to put forth some kind of proposal for this category structure.

Is there anyone actively working on this structure change?

I've posted a comment on the page encouraging Gaile C to report here.
