The 09 February 1940 issue of The North Platte Telegraph says Betty Mae Welch was on the list of tentative graduates of St. Patrick's Academy (Sidney, Nebraska).: https://www.newspapers.com/image/746458697/?terms="Betty%20Mae%20Welch"&match=1

However, she is not in the list of seniors who graduated in May 1940 (https://www.newspapers.com/image/749705320/?terms="St.%20Patrick%27s%20Academy").

What happened to her between February 1940 and May 1940? Or was her name accidentally omitted in the May 1940 newspaper account? No further record of her has been found. Could she have gotten married and left school before graduating?

Who was her guardian? It appears both of her parents died in the 1920s.

Being orphaned by 1927 or 1928, she went to live with her Aunt Florence (Welch) Vacik, and was living with her during the 1930 Census. However, in the obituary for Florence in November 1935 says that Betty was living in Sidney, Nebraska.  Her Uncle Vacik was still alive but was living in Wyoming during the 1940 Census, so if he was a guardian at all, it was from a distance.  I suppose the school could have been her guardian.
