Hi Wikitreers,
For any baseball enthusiast at the turn of the 20th century you might find my great grandfathers brother George Napoleon Simpier interesting!
Genealogy is always about finding something new and we have found that George N. Simpier aka “Muggsy" “Simpier because of his scrappy disposition” was a baseball player apparently for his company’s baseball team. He was about 25-27 years of age when playing, but maybe younger? A wonderful vintage photo of him is listed in one of the articles. A true treasure to discover along the journey! See photos in newsclip links in bio 2 new photos in total found see Here and also Here
I would like to know more about George and his baseball adventures and what was this “Peoples Store” he managed?
Baseball in 1906/1907/1908 seems to be centered around communities and the employers who employed so many of the era
George Simpier was born on September 03, 1880 in Cadillac, Wax, Michigan, USA. His parents were Joseph Simpier and Matilda Ronger. He married Alice Kerl on May 23, 1905 Together they had 1 child:
- George Simpier
He died on December 03, 1940 in Everett, Snohomish, Washington, USA
Thank you
Note: I wonder if he had anymore children? The photos in the clips will help identify him better in his childhood photo with brothers. It appears not much mentioned about the baseball team after 1908? Does he have an obit? It seems he disappears during the 1910-1940 time frame. Needs 1920 census
Addendum: His wife lived to age 103-104 per gravestone maybe remarried no obit found yet; however her gravestone retains her married name which could mean she lived 40 years further and never remarried
