I am confused by the records here and what they may mean.
I show Elizabeth Kane Snyder, who was born in PA, as married to Peter Snyder in 1795 and living in Johnson County, Tennessee. I have the death date for her husband. This is all from War of 1812 Pension Applications
Soldier: Peter Snyder; Widow: Elizabeth Kane Snyder; Marriage Date: 1795; Date Enlisted: 13 Sep 1814; Date Discharged: 3 May 1815; Soldier's Death Date: 13 Oct 1860; Soldier's Death Place: Jeffreson County, Tennessee; Military Service Location: Tennessee; Widow's Death Date: 28 Oct 1878; Pension Number - #1: WO 2696; Pension Number - #2: WC 863; Bounty Land Number - #1: 52971 80 50; Bounty Land Number - #2: 1436 80 55; Roll number: 87; Archive Publication Number: M313.
However, in 1850 and 1860, I show Peter as married to a woman from North Carolina. The marriage record I have is 11 Apr 1803. One would assume any children born after 1803 would be hers.
One of those children, Nancy Snyder Crosswhite, shows an Elizabeth Snyder living with her in 1860. We can trace that Elizabeth back on a census record in 1850 because of her PA birth.
What the heck is going on? Was Peter having children with both women during this time or are there multiple Peters being mixed up here?
