Can we please get the ball rolling on cleaning up Focke-2?

There is quite a lot of information listed here, and frankly a lot of gunk clogging up the profile.

1. He is erroneously listed as a son of a man named Evert Focke. There is no evidence that these two men are connected, it is unknown where Evert came from, and the two are linked for no good reason.

2. He is given the surname/patronymic Focke with no evidence. This should be removed and placed in research notes. There is more evidence that he used the surname Heermans than Focke.

3. He is seperated from family members, and the PPP prevents the addition of known children and other associated profiles. Attempts by me and other researches to reach out and add these family members have fallen on deaf ears, gone ignored for over a year.

3a. The will of his daughter Lutgert was discovered several years ago, this gives a lot of valuable information that should be sufficient proof of these people being added. Please see the work done by Terstal-1 in this regard.

Thanks Charles, the issues are largely addressed in the linked Free Space page.

Regarding your issue #1,

Regarding Focke Jansz' ancestry, the Pitman article says:

"He might well have been a grandson of Evert Focken (Fockes, Foppe) who settled at Werpoes on Manhattan Island and died before 1630. [Evert] may have been a pioneer settler of 1624 or have come the next year with the Hulft Expedition. He was survived by his wife whose name does not appear on the records. [Stokes, _Icon. of Manhattan_, 6:7]"

The connected WikiTree profiles, as imported, placed Focke Jansz as son of Jan Focke, and as grandson of Evert Focke.

I think with the documentation as it is there, I would support removal of Jan Focke as son of Evert Focke.

Regarding your issue #3, PPP only protects LNAB from changes. All other edit changes are possible, including relationships, as normal for any profile. As long as you are pre-1700 qualified.

Just go to the Edit tab, to add any sourced children, after adequate discussion here, probably.

Hi Stephen

I greatly appreciate you getting back to me! I see your note that you added and I think that is a good route to go for now until we can clean things up. I wish I could chat with Pittman to see what was going through his head/if he knew something we don't.

Im not sure if things have changed but I am not able to add children of Jan because of the PPP, even though I am pre 1700 certified.

Children that already have profiles are here:

Jans-6111

Jans-5973

There are a good chunk of other family members in here but its hard to figure out how they are related because of the old dutch.

Known Children of Jan & Wife, or either one widowed/remarried:

Nellitje Janssen Heermans (born in ruinen lived in amsterdam) (m. Jelte Jeltessen Haan, daug. Gertruit Haan [m. Simon Wallegens], daug. Emmentien Haan [m. Aart Mewes],

Lutgert Janssen Heermans (born in ruinen lived in zwolle)

Heerman Janssen (lived in ruinen, unk birthplace)

Berrentien Janssen

Focke Janssen

Unidentified Nieces/Nephews of Lutgert (note old dutch the word niece/nephew was used for multiple things):

Geertruit Fenix (m. Ariaan Phips) - This Geertruit is listed in the same sentence as the nieces that are confirmed daughters of Nellitje Janssen Heermans (Haan), so I assume this was a female child of a sister rather than a female cousin.

Hendrick Focken, there is a Hendrick Focken mentioned in a letter to Stephen Coerts who claims he is the half brother of Focke Jans (same one, bonte koe, bowerij, etc.) I think these may be the same person? The Hendrick (possibly) lived in Gramsbergen, where the inheritence for him and his daughters (Hilletien & Grietien) was invested in the church.

Marrentien Ariaans, daughter of Ariaan Phlips, likely stepdaughter of Geertruit Fenix, see above.

Maarten Herms de Jonge

Charles, you need to be more specific about what you mean by, "I am not able to add children."

When I click on the Edit tab, on the right, I have the option:

[add/remove child]

Children:
  1. Focke Jansz Privacy Level: Open (White) edit ancestors family group sheet descendants

Steven, PPP now protects more than changes to Last Name at Birth; it also protects changes to relationships. See:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Project_Protection#What_is_a_Protected_on_a_PPP.3F

Edited to add: Steven, you are a project coordinator which gives you ability to change relationships on PPP'd profile.

Oh nice, thanks Jillaine, I missed that welcome change to PPP power.

It seems to me that the desired procedure for Charles' need here is exactly as outlined on that help page in the section,

How to add or edit a parent, child, or spouse

I've removed the father and added the two children.  Are there any other changes needed?
