USBH Weekend Sprint: Help us Complete these Cemeteries

Welcome to US Black Heritage Project's weekend sprint!

In conjunction with the Cemeterist Project's month of challenges, USBH would like to complete all of our cemeteries that are 50%+ complete. That means a profile for each memorial has been created.

This Sprint has been completed

Goal: To work together to finish creating profiles for all the USBH cemeteries that are 50%+ completed.

Cemeteries help us connect families together.

Instructions:

  • Post an answer below and tell us you will be participating.
  • Go to the Google spreadsheet  and put your Wiki-ID next to the first memorial you will be creating.
  • The Find A Grave Memorial is linked to each name.
  • Find at least 1 more source in addition to Find A Grave. Especially try to find a source to prove they should have the AA sticker and to find an LNAB for the women. Not all family buried in Black cemeteries were/are Black.
  • Create the new profile and put the new Wiki-ID on the spreadsheet.
  • If they have Black heritage, make sure they have the {{African-American Sticker}}.
  • Add the category for that cemetery using the category picker.
  • If we complete all the memorials before the weekend is over, please go to tab #4 and begin working on the New Hill Cemetery in Caddo Parish, Louisiana, chosen to kick off our new USBH Louisiana Team.
  • Hint: You can add these maintenance categories as needed: [[Category: US Black Heritage Project, Needs Sources]] (which means it needs MORE sources), [[Category: US Black Heritage Project, Needs Profiles Created]] (which means you found a source with more family, but don't have time to create them right then).
  • We will not be tracking individual scores, but you can keep track of your own contributions and comment on your post at the end of the weekend just for fun.

Thank you for helping us meet our goal of 250,000 profiles in 2023!

A note to USBH Connecting Challenge participants: The first profile in the family unit is your anchor profile and doesn't count toward the challenge. Every family member you attach does count.

States represented in this sprint: Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia

Before: 296 Profiles Need to be created

Supplemental goal (Louisiana Cemetery): 331 profiles needed

After: 100% of the cemeteries have been completed!

118 out of 331 profiles from New Hill Cemetery completed.

No cemeteries on the sheet from either Ohio or Virginia? Just asking. May be that they’re not at the 51% threshold.
Ohio and Virginia are on tab 3. I split them alphabetically by state into three tabs so we didn't have to scroll too much.

Dear Emma,

Count me in.  I should have a chance to make some profiles.  Think I'll look at New Jersey first. - NGP

Thanks, Nanette!
Only three people in that NJ cemetery, and the last profile is claimed.  Moving on to Ohio.
Thanks, Nanette. Some of these locations were only a few profiles away from being complete.
Working now in North Carolina. -NGP

I’m in. Feeling guilty for not doing much on the USBH this month, since I found such a lovely rabbit hole to wallow around in. wink

by Carole Bannes G2G6 Mach 5 (53.9k points)
Well, as long as it was a lovely rabbit hole! LOL
FamilySearch has punked out on me. It won’t let me load any images. I’m going to have to switch browsers tomorrow. And I found a whole family, too!

Carole, I wonder if this is the same as one or other of the issues described under the G2G question at this link.

Looks like it is. Thanks, Jim. Nice to know it isn’t just me. I wonder if it’s a problem with a specific browser, maybe?

I picked Louisiana and found several records on Mittie Lee Brazil. Trying to figure out what to do next. Can't find my Wiki Tree id #. Do I need to create a profile for her? How to create her and more importantly on what tree do I create her? I will watch some videos tomorrow but I don't understand how this works.

P. S. I am very new.
by Daphne Foster G2G Crew (990 points)
Hi Daphne, profiles can be created for people without adding them to a tree by going to the Add+ tab on the menu and choosing "New Person." You fill out the information about them and click the create button.

Your Wiki-ID is Foster_Goodwin-1

Once you create a profile, you can add all the sources you found to the profile under the sources heading.
Thank you so much! Very helpful.

I'll look for at least one or two people tomorrow.  And thanks for the list of Categories. I could use a few of those on many profiles I have created.

Fabulous! Thanks, Cindy
