I was wondering if Magna Carta Surety Baron Hugh Bigod had any trails to Gateway Ancestors

I notice that after Magna Carta Surety Baron Hugh Bigod I don't find trails to Gateway Ancestors. Is there a reason why?

Just curious, because I find no trails to Gateways and trails with no Gateway Ancestors

There are lots of trails to Gateways Ancestors. The Magna Carta Project does not list trails on the profiles of Surety Barons.

The easiest way to see the trails that have been identified by the Project for Hugh Bigod is to go to the Project's Base Camp page and search for Bigod. There are bound to be other trails, but the Project has no current plans to identify and work on them.

I think this page, Gateway Trails of the Magna Carta Project to the Bigods, may offer more precise information on the badged Magna Carta trails worked out so far, as well as those under review. A more comprehensive list of the Surety Barons to Gateway Ancestor connections can be found here: Index of Surety Barons to Gateway Ancestors.

I hope that helps!

Thanks Brian! Your answer is what I would have posted, but with a caveat... that page may be a bit out of date. I was stretched too thin for a few years but have recently taken steps to remedy that & hope to catch up with my duties as the Magna Carta Project's Admin & Maintenance Team Leader in 2023.

Cheers, Liz
I appreciate the kind words Liz! I didn't intend to jump the gun on you honestly:) I just happened to be reviewing some of the MG project pages myself as I stumbled across this question.
I'm not the best at keeping up with G2G, so I love it when others say what I would have, but in a timely manner :D

Thank you for answering my question, Brian, Liz, and Michael

Whew. Just finished updating the list of Gateways on the two category pages - Bigod-1 Descendants (Hugh) & Bigod-2 Descendants (Roger). The combined page that Brian referenced was too cumbersome to maintain, so it has been deleted (actually, merged away into another page slated for deletion, which itself will probably be merged away into a private, non-project page or deleted).

If you check your relationship to either Hugh or Roger,* you can then check for matches with Gateway names on the Descendants category pages for someone born late 1500s/pre-1700 in the returned trail. For example, my trail goes through an immigrant ancestor born in 1623 who is (sadly) not a Gateway ancestor recognized by Richardson or the Magna Carta Project.

* To get a relationship trail, you can plug in Bigod-1 or Bigod-2, respectively, at [Special:Relationship], or click the "Relationship to Me" link in the dropdown menu under Bigod-1 or Bigod-2 in the mini-menu at upper right on their profile pages.

In February, I plan to check through the profiles on the badged trails, but I think they've already been added to the appropriate categories. This means that if you click "[Limit to Watchlist]" on one of the Descendants category pages, you should get an accurate list of any profiles on your watchlist that are in a badged trail to Hugh or Roger (depending on whose category page you're on - Roger has a few more trails than Hugh, since not all trails from Roger went through his son Hugh).

Note that the Descendants categories are a profile management tool for the Magna Carta Project and only include profiles in a trail badged by the project, which only means they only run from Gateway to Surety Baron - no children/descendants of Gateways & no collateral relatives.

Cheers, Liz

P.S. to Brian - Sorry for replacing your Best Answer with Michael's. His suggestion to search Base Camp for Bigod really is the easiest way to see which Gateways have a badged trail to Hugh and/or Roger.

LOL Liz - right after I was emailed your first reply today (which involved an impressive amount of work by the way), I was jut about to implore you to bench my starred response in favor of Michael's, which is obviously more up to date and relevant. So thank you for being so clear for both myself and all others interested in researching the Gateway trails!
