Hi Karah,
I am relatively new to Genealogy having started in 2013. I may not be the best person to offer advice but I will say that if you are serious about your family history take a long view of the quest to discover your people. I think a lot of people nowadays like the 'quick results' are best view. Reality in genealogy is a much more methodical and time consuming process. It takes years if not decades to uncover the distant past. You will need to have good qualities to succeed such as patience, diligence, oversight and tenacity to achieve your genealogy goals. It is really rewarding if you are prepared to do the hard yards. Using Ancestry with WikiTree is a good starting point. But you should be open to using many platforms to cast your net as wide as possible. Good luck !!!
