Military service research query / 1921 census query

Hi

I have two requests relating to this profile if anyone can assist please.

(i) George Croft had a son Albert Ro(w)land Croft in 1891 with his wife Susannah Clark(e). Albert was baptised at Holy Trinity Brompton and George's profession was given as 'soldier'.

They also had a son Stephen Francis in 1878 in Leicestershire and another Frederick in 1884 in Sheffield.

Is there any way from this information, which is all I have from this period of George's life (other than his father's name of James), to identify what unit he may have been in and see where he served?

(ii) I was hoping someone with access to the 1921 UK census might try to find George or third wife Rachel if they can. I did some searches and found his son by Rachel under 'Oliver Boddington Croft' (born 1899) - if someone could say who else was living with Oliver that would help also.

Were you aware that you do not need a subscription to view the 1921 UK census on FMP - the image is available to purchase for £3.50.  To get to the payment window just click 'view image' and you will get the 'one-off payment' screen.

This is not just relevant for copies of the 1921 UK census, all images on FMP including the newspapers - can be purchased individually without a subscription - charges vary from as little as 50p through to the £3.50 for the 1921 census.

Hi, yes I was - I found the extent to which they paywalled the census behind their premium subscription to be rather distasteful and this question is £3.50 cheaper.
