Question

Does anyone have access to the article by Vernon Eldred - “Who Sailed Round the World with Thomas Cavendish 1586-88”  February 2000 issue of Suffolk Roots (the Journal of the Suffolk Family History Society)?

One passage in the article of particular interest is this: 

"...a very important Note in a 1987 Newsletter of the Suffolk Institute of Archaeology and History in which Dr Blatchly of Ipswich had reported his opinion that the Thomas Eldred of Ipswich who had gone around the world with Thomas Cavendish was indeed the son of Thomas and Margery Eldred. John Blatchly and I subsequently corresponded and he drew my attention to the will of that Thomas the son who bequeathed what amounted to substantial wealth to numerous relatives, including a piece of gold to each of six ladies in the family. Although Thomas makes no reference in the will to Thomas Cavendish's expedition, one is certainly left with a strong impression that he was most probably the Thomas Eldred (1561- ~1624) of Ipswich who went around the world."

There is no solid conclusion drawn in the article re Thomas Eldred, it's more of a discussion of a couple of possibilities. Unless further evidence has come to light since that article was published in 2000, I think the question asked in its title remains open.
