Ancestor from Metz, Moselle 1726

My ancestor was Lodowick (Ludwig) Metz born ca 1705 in/near Asace-Lorraine.  He emigrated in to Pennsylvania 1726 and was a Mennonite.

We have lots of info on him after arrival, but nothing before other than a family held document, written in German by his grandson, which lists his father as Peter Van Metz.

We are currently at a dead end trying to locate more exact information on Lodowick Metz, or his father. No mother was mentioned in our document. Can anyone in this group direct me to sources that may be relevant, or share your knowledge if you have personal info on locating records in France/Germany/Switzerland?

No, that person has a different wife, different children, different parents...and lived in Germany. No record of him in Pennsylvania. And there is no record of his immigration.  The son listed in the above link was born 8 years after the purported death.

We have done an incredible amount if research and well established that Ludwig Christoph is not the same man as our ancestor.

Thank you for the suggestion, through.

The Geneanet profile for this Lodowick Metz says he did live and die in Pennsylvania: "Deceased in December 1756 - Rapho Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA, aged 54 years old".

What was the wife's name for your Lodowick Metz?  I'll check elsewhere.

Lodowick Metz b 1705 is definitely NOT the same person as Ludwig Christoph Metz b 1700.  I'm looking for primary and secondary documentation, not links from and to other genealogy sites. Too many trees on too many sites are confounding the two men, their parents, and their children. Its awful.

Our Lodowick was married twice, and we have found the wives and children. We have a document written by his grandson Dr John Lewis Metz in German, which provides primary documentation for much of his life. See Lodowick Metz . I'm now looking for his parents in Metz, Alsace and information from  there to Rotterdam to British Colonial America.

Thank you again for your efforts.

We have definitive primary evidence that our Lodowick Metz was born in/near Metz, Alsace in 1705 and emigrated to Pennsylvania, British Colonial America in 1726.  His father's name was documented to be Peter von Metz. I have located a Francoise Messin in the Metz archives in 1792, which roughly translates to Peter from Metz.  We have found much of the information on geneanet and other sites is muddied as the result of careless merging and copying.

Again, thank you so much for your efforts.
