Good morning everyone,

I am currently searching for any American, Mexican or Canadian (or other) person that may have ancestors in southern Alsace/Haut-Rhin. I work a lot on these archives. I know there were a lot of immigration in all Alsacian villages so please let me know if you have a clue that any of your ancestors could come from Alsace and preferably southern Alsace.

Thank you very much and have a good day.

Hi Zélian,

I'm American and Salome (Haushalter) Greber is one of my 3g grandmothers. Her parents and many of her ancestors are from Alsace, mostly from what is now Betschdorf, Bas-Rhin, France and nearby communes. So I've done quite a bit of research in the Bas-Rhin archives. In 1836, Salome's parents and several siblings immigrated to the St. Louis, Missouri area in the United States of America.

I have a connection to northern Alsace George Jakob Feuerstein (abt. 1806 - 1871) my GGG-Father on my mothers side.

I have also researched other Feuersteins from the area. See Space:Feuerstein_Name_Study Alsation_Feuersteins

Migrants d'Alsace au Canada, Nouvelle-France category has a few profiles that could use any and all additional sources you can find, don't know if they were north or south in Alsace.

Thank you for your messages, it is really encouraging for further researches to have such quick answers !

Even if I know less about Bas-Rhin cause I have less ancestors there, I will look forward new possible connections with you and other alsacian american offsprings.

Have a very good evening until I read you again :)

Hi Zélian.

I'm French and many of my ancestors are from southern Alsace.

The case of one of my cousins might interest you. Joseph Wendlinger (Wendlinger-213 on Wikitree) was born in Seppois-le-Bas (Niedersept in German, Haut-Rhin) in 1828. He went to New York in 1868 but I was not able to know his fate, whether or not he got married and had children, and where he died (i think NY immigration archives burnt for this year). Maybe you could find something about him while i'm not familiar with american archives.

Thank you for your post.

Very interesting question. I have been trying (so far unsuccessfully) to make a connection between the old world and the new for a Michael Gassmann (see Gaßmann-158 and Gaßmann-256). Even though he shares my last name, we are not, to my knowledge related. (I came across him several years ago during a "Connection Challenge" and picked him because of the shared last name.) Gaßmann-158 was born in Birlenbach, Bas-Rhin, and I would be very grateful for any assistance in finishing the job I started way back when.
