How would you like to see us celebrate WikiTree's 15th Anniversary in 2023?

Hi WikiTreers!

Next year is WikiTree's 15th anniversary and we are looking for ways we can celebrate it throughout the year.

We will definitely do WikiTree Day again, since it was so much fun this year. What other ways can you think of to help celebrate? An activity the community could do? A way we can give back? Something else?

Have an idea? Post it below!

Maybe focus on a different aspect of '15' as monthly challenges. If the subject of the focus remains our unsourced, unconnected, unknown orphaned profiles then it is a way of giving back and celebrating each months wins in our focus direction.  Some examples might be: life events on the 15th of a month, life events on the 15 year of a century, a glimpse of what life was like when a 15 year old. Thats about it for my suggestion  - just playing around with the number as a focus for some short little challenges.

I like it! Short little challenges are always fun.

Giving back:
*Charity drive - using the different challenge teams as a way to organize
--food drive: have members take selfies with their donations and enter the weight. At the end, we can announce how much was donated worldwide by the community

*Brick wall drawing: have a post for members to enter their brick walls. At the beginning/kick-off draw a winner (maybe one for different parts of the world), then the community can all work together on them.

I love the idea of collaborating on other's brick walls.
Both really intriguing ideas!
Not to diminish the other ideas, but I REALLY like the idea of a Brick Wall Drawing! It benefits the winner AND the wiki.
I like the idea of a Brick Wall drawing, also.

Fifteen things

... that you can do to become a better WikiTreer

... that you can do to make Wikitree better

Probably half of those 15 should correspond to Honor Code items.

How to measure/track/reward could be problematic. Sort of like the 52 Ancestors, but its the 15 for 15 instead.

Yeah, the idea of 15 things to better us would be interesting to figure out!

Perhaps a challenge to do 15 significant actions in the days/weeks/months leading up to the anniversary. How many "To Do" lists are there (unsourced, orphaned, unconnected, Data Doctor, date problems, 0 categories, 0 stickers, etc.)? If there are 15+ such lists, the participants could pick one profile from each of 15 lists to fix up. The tree as a whole would benefit and the participants may learn some new (to them) features of WT.

Interesting idea! It would be cool to have something leading up to the anniversary itself.
I really like this one, because it would give people a chance to experience a wide range things WikiTree to help celebrate the 15th Anniversary. This is a big milestone, I have only been around for about 6 years and still haven't seen everything.

What about "Virtual Olympics 2023". We set up five teams that correspond to the Continents of the Olympic flag, the continents include the countries in that continent. Each team has a colour.-  Africa (yellow), the Americas (red), Asia (green), Europe (black), and Oceania (blue). Wikitreers select which team they want to join based either on where they currently live or where they are currently researching. The monthly sprints can relate to any theme. Sports (maybe Athletes in specific Olympic Games ?), Music, Politicians, Heads of state, Literary figures, Scientist. points for new profiles, and connected profiles and  possibly categories added ? Teams awarded Gold, Silver, Bronze at the end of each sprint based on total number of points?

This is a very interesting idea! If we decided to do something like this would you want to help with the planning?
Happy to help, if I can.
It should be noted that "Oceania" is not a continent, but a is a geographical region - the naming of which is not necessarily universally recognised (and should, therefore, be explained).
Even the term "Australasia" (a geographical region within the larger geographical region of Oceania) is not necessarily universally recognised.

Africa, the Americas (considered as one continent (because they used to be joined as such before the Canal was cut)), Europe (treated as distinct from), Asia, and Australia are the actual continents, as distinct from geographical regions such as Australasia or Oceania.

I love the idea of looking over the last 15 years to see how far we have advanced.

Taking Rosalie and Kay's suggestion one step further.

We could have a list of missions to achieve in the 15th year, and everyone get a badge when we achieve 15 missions from the list - there would need to be more than 15 missions ideally to give the best opportunity for everyone to win. Examples of missions

- Source at least 15 profiles during the source a thon

-Create at least 15 profiles during the connect a thon

-Help with at least 15 profiles on the suggestions list

-Have no profiles you manage on the suggestions list by the anniversary date

-Attend the wikitree conference

- Score at least ?? points on g2g during this year

- achieve a cc (connection count) of at least 1515 during this year

- get involved with at least 15 weekly challenges during the year

- Be nominated as a wonderful wikitreer this year

- Sign the honour code this year

- Work with a mentor this year

- achieve the pre 1500 certification

-achieve the pre 1700 certification

- help a project at least 15x this year

- Manage at least 15 profiles (to help the new starters)

-Volunteer and work as a greeter

-Volunteer and work as an arborist

Also, another idea, instead of giving out monthly badges for 100, 1000, for this year only they could be 115 and 1515

We'll need a lot more things added to this list to make 15 that people can actually hope to accomplish. A quick look and I only think I can do 8 of these things.
Any ideas?  Think I'm at 8 to lol but maybe with these 2 I could hit 10 but might be able to push to 14 if I had more time

- achieve at least 5, 115 contribution badges over the year

- achieve at last 1, 1015/1515 contribution badges this year
This sounds great! I'd like to reach 1515 connections (C7) in 2023!
Your at 395 now so a bit of a way to go, I'm still going to reach 1000 by the end of the year but think it might be doing it of reach.

Develop an interface in 15 different languages?

We have already one (English), only 14 left to add ... among the 7,000+ spoken in the world. cheeky

by Bernard Vatant G2G6 Pilot (176k points)
Ambitious!  Sure would help spread WikiTree across the world, though!
Would be great to open up an get more people to collaborate. I know a lot of people only capable of speaking German who would be happy to put their efforts into WikiTree but don‘t because they don‘t understand the UI
Would support that!
Love this idea!

I have developed a checklist for What Constitutes a "Completed" Profile, which we use at the Classic Disney Project - although it's applicable to any profile. It currently has 16 elements, plus one bonus, but we could easily modify it down to 15 elements. Not sure how we'd fill an hour-long presentation on it, but we have a year to figure that out.

by David Randall G2G6 Pilot (366k points)
Great idea! Bookmarked the space page.
I’m interested that you have included siblings names on this list. Many profiles have parents’ a names and chiildren’s names, but few have siblings’ names.
I have also noticed that a lot of people ignore the siblings. I don't know why, as we can learn so much more about our own ancestors by examining the lives of their siblings.
And sometimes by looking at the siblings, you find information about the parents that you can add to their Bio, like occupation and place of residence.

Everyone should come to Canada during January to see what a lovely place this is.  You can go skiing, sledding, skating on ice and have hot chocolate and hay rides.  We have a nice library too.  I'll host the event at the farms.  It would be great fun.  Jacqueline Dobson

We are definitely talking about all the things Canadian to discuss or present for the next WikiTree Day!! This year's presentations were amazing and inspiring :)

In the spirit of looking back at where we came from, I would love to honour some of those WikiTreer's who have passed away.

Could we choose 15 and find some way to highlight their contributions, the work they put in, the projects they worked on, etc.?
by Christine Daniels G2G6 Pilot (172k points)
Oh, that is a really thoughtful idea!

Great idea Christine yes

15-Year Anniversity symbols include items like gifts of crystal, gemstones of ruby or garnet, watches, or rose. Pick a picture you've added to WikiTree suitable to use as a background for 15 of your favorite profiles. Maybe a free-space page could be created with a few pictures that could be used by anyone.

For example, I could use one from a Space page called "Memories in Pictures":

I will continue to Give Back by supporting the great teams I'm involved with. Will also be creating new profiles and improving others that have been neglected, especially those annoying unsourced profiles, just to mention a few.

May I suggest WT Give Back some recognition to our long serving members who have continuously dedicate their time to WT for 5 years or more. It would be like a Long Service Badge.

It has been written so let it be done.

Make more effort at Internationalism.

Select 15 under-represented countries and figure out how to manage LNAB etc and at least give the heads of state profiles.
by C. Mackinnon G2G6 Pilot (340k points)
I wonder how much this would overlap with the smallest countries. How much do we have on Oceania? Non-English speaking parts of Africa?
