How to update PDF files in a space

I have recently created a space, Church records of the Amt Battenberg, to share transcriptions of documents on WikiTree. Previously, these files were hosted on Google Drive (link), where I would update them about once per week, replacing them with the latest version (all the files are "work-in-progress"). However, it has been brought to my attention that this is a less-than-ideal way to host the documents (compare this G2G question).

Now that the files are on WikiTree, I wonder how to best update them. I see no button that simply lets you upload a new version of a file. Suggestions?

Upload the newer version, and delete the one it is replacing.
And that keeps links to the file intact??
No. So you could link to the space page instead of the PDF itself.
I see.

Well, not ideal, but I guess I can work with that. I will make a note in the space that links to the files are not stable. Thanks!

If on the space page you describe and link each PDF in a separate section with its own level 3 or level 4 heading, so that a table of contents is created, you can copy and paste the links from that table into profiles where you want to link to a file. It might look something like this:

[[Space:Church_records_of_the_Amt_Battenberg#File_Number_3|File Number 3]]

Just a question: Is there a word limit for how large a WikiTree page can be? I am thinking of converting the transcriptions into Wiki-text, and posting it on the page directly (rather than in PDF files).

I don't know about space pages, but profile biographies over 100,000 characters are deprecated:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:DBE_801

Not an option then. I can't cut it into chunks smaller than 500,000 words (many millions of letters) each.

DBE_801 is only a warning. The longest profile seems to be Schuerger-1 with 953,820 bytes, and that displays perfectly well. So you could try, starting with a medium-length example. Maybe it will look fine. Of course, there are no suggestions about space pages.

I am looking into moving the files to Genwiki, and linking to that.
Another question: How do I delete files?

Same as a photo: see here. On the page for the image (or file in this case), remove it from all profiles or free space pages to which it is attached. It will then be automatically deleted after a delay.

Great, thanks!
