Andrew:

Another fascinating individual, whether or not he is notable.

    Here's a link to a transcribed obituary:

Ah great source! This ole Yankee turned Confederate all the way from the Green mountain state! What a story really shows the division of the nation at the time and even among families.

The family had him buried in Vermont. I wonder if that was his wishes? He never married apparently no mention of wife/kids.

Edit: Here is the story Vermonter in Gray: The Story of Melvin Dwinell by Harold A Dwinell

Hi Andrew I got that received an e-mail as a member of the New England Historical Society. Which included that article about Melvin Dwinell.  That prompted me to create a profile for him.  I didn't include all of the information as I was concerned about copyrights.  The obituary did mention that although he chose Georgia as his residence, He visited with family in Vermont every summer and considered Vermont his "home".  So, it's most likely he had made his wishes known to his family.

Thank you wonderful job on his profile. A fascinating article and he is connected. yes

Thank you, Andrew,. Did you notice you and I are 8th cousins 1xR? Our most recent common ancestor is Edward Allen, but we have many others. smiley

Oh I see the connection this is the side my 6th gg Sarah (Allen) Hélène (1692 - 1764) who was taken in the Raid on Deerfield  we share her mother Mercy (Painter) Allen (abt. 1664 - 1740). This side has a very interesting story of her survival!

Edited: fixed broken link to Raid on Deerfield

Yes, there were so many stories of perseverance and survival in the histories of families from the Raid on Deerfield. I can't even imagine what they went through.
